As such there are various Top Secret investigations on going to experiment with Portal Technology. Unbeknownst to the common person, Nerk Particles don't come from this Universe but are actually elements found in a Space known as 'The Void' which is theorised to be a Border dimension between universes though there have been few expeditions into such places due to various complications such as the fact that few Explorers live long.
Indeed sometimes Invaders have come through these gates resulting in disasters that often need to be covered up with Lethal precision. Such as the 2076, Area 16 Incident where a Secretive government facility was overtaken by floating cubes that consumed the staff.
Only defeated by emitting certain frequencies of sound. Furthermore, it is rumoured that some individuals possess the ability to manipulate Nerk Particles without the need for elixirs or genetic engineering. These individuals are known as Pyskics and are often feared and revered in equal measure due to their abilities to manipulate reality at will. Officially they are known as Class-A Mutants named Etherals. There has only ever been one Etheral ever spotted though almost known knows her name or where she is.
