The Verdant Coterie

The Verdant Coterie is a religion based on the worship of Radacallis, The Even-Handed. They are focused on the veneration of the diverse life that exists that allows life to be possible in the city and protection of the cycle of life

Cosmological Views

The Coterie believe that all life originated from the underground to begin with and that Radacallis, The Even-Handed is the mother of all life in Reldaz. This belief is based on the fact that the surface is essentially inhospitable but the deeper you go into the underground, the most diverse life becomes. Certain members even believe that their goddess can be found at the very bottom of the Pit of Tartarus.

Tenets of Faith

Ethics

As seen with their priesthood, The Coterie are very independent in terms of of their ethics. Radacallis, The Even-Handed teach a survival of the fittest mindset, which reflects the members of the religion as well. However, small groups do form within the religion in order to help each other, share ideas, and discuss theology.

Worship

Worship within the religion is typically done in the following ways:
  • Offerings: Trophies of successful hunting of monstrosities or an offering of a bountiful harvest are often offered in temples or shrines to venerate The Even-Handed.
  • Healing Others: While survival of the fittest is a tenant of the faith, helping the sick and infirm is seen by the religion as outside the normal purview of that tenant.
  • Planting and Composting: Gardening essentially. Adding more to what is available for you to harvest, returning what is not needed to the soil.

Priesthood

The hierarchy of the Coterie is fairly simple compared to other religions in the city. Most of the Coterie considers themselves independent and not accountable to the demands and concerns of other members. However, in the event of a dispute, many members gather together and collectively vote on a arbiter who has the authority to settle the dispute. After the dispute is handled, the arbiter returns the title and just becomes another member of the religion again.

Political Influence & Intrigue

With most religions, they do have a connection with the Guild of Mages in terms of training druids, clerics, paladins and warlocks of the faith. Many Delvers also have tendency to of the faith as well due to the similar views of survival in Reldaz. The Coterie possibly has the most ties to other guilds out of the other religions, thanks to the ties of nature and survival in their tenants and their independent nature.
