Plots, secrets, protection from schemes, information, drinking blood, symbiotic or parasitic survival
Oxpeckers, blood in the shape of it draining into a vessel or pouring into a thin shape, a red circle with a black dot symbolizing an oxpecker eye, or feathers with the underside painted with a yellow to red gradient are the most common symbols for Satari. Rare ones are written declarations of protected information or secrets, though these are unlikely to be left at a shrine wåithout the writer nearby.
Displays of oxpeckers in print or other decoration are often in full view. Most full displays of an oxpecker are easily visible with bright reds and yellows used in the designs. However, displays for purely religious purposes are small and the shrines are private with a focus on quiet displays. For example: The painted feathers are displayed with the unpainted side up, where the paint is hidden from view until turned over. An oxpecker eye pin might be placed under a lapel or the blood symbols inside the vest fabric.
Shrines to Satari are kept by small communities or within personal households.
Satari’s holidays are often attached to historical dates important to the local area where a secret event was either foiled or successfully carried out. These are not large festivals compared to stronger gods, but are ‘town wide’ instead of ‘country wide’ events.
Survival with the use of others is a key part of Satari’s goals. This can often be at the expense of another or in some parasitic or symbiotic manner instead of a purely cooperative way. Pure destruction of another species is something she attempts to avoid, likely because of the near extinction of the oxpecker species.
Physical Description
Satari’s mortal form is an average grown woman that appears not-quite middle aged. Her hair is dark brown and often long, having a curl. It is rare that she shows divine paint and appears as more than just a human. She is often seen without jewelry unless a situation calls for it. Due to the fragile state of her species (being largely in captivity) and the alignment with secrets and plots, she is often not the first noticed in a room.
Satari’s divine paint is a bright red line that runs from the middle of the lower lip down the chin, throat, and chest and sends above the middle of the stomach organ.
Her clothes will vary by region to match what would be ‘upper business’, such as a pencil skirt and blazer or a suit.
Mental characteristics
Satari is an ancient god but has not been powerful enough to appear in histories on her own. Most stories that involve her will be her assisting or troubling another god or mortal, the whispering voice in an ear or needling the right hidden area to ‘drink her fill’ and leave. What is known is that her worship is popular among other blood drinking species, such as vampires.
Part of the survival of her species was aligning with the Blood Dragonflight. For centuries her species was kept by dragons of the Blood Flight, the practice likely where vampires gained the practice.
It is common for Satari to live hidden as a mortal in communities for a few decades before leaving abruptly, oftentimes not revealing her god status to even mortal spouses or children unless she is particularly fond of them.
Satari does not seem to acknowledge this as a personal embarrassment, but her species is largely dependent on other species either thriving or her species being ‘kept’. At one time her species was nearly wiped out and only survived due to small pockets of the species becoming scavengers or colonies being in containment. This can be seen by others as an embarrassment. Even now, a majority of her species population are kept as pets by blood dragons or mortals.
Personality Characteristics
Satari focused on the survival of ehr species and, eventually, the ability for them to exist without being reliable on being captive.
Satari is fond of high society activities and subtle excess. Whether this comes from how others view her due to her attachment to vampire society, or whether she purposely worked to integrate herself and her species into vampire society because of it, is something she certainly won’t speak about.
She does not enjoy gossip but she does value and enjoys gathering information to keep for herself. The information is more social than academic, focused on the tangled weaving of mortals or gods plans and machinations more than science or arts.
The overindulgence of violence and waste of blood is something she heavily dislikes. Another thing that Satari is strongly against is the decimation of a species if the species is not causing decimation itself. There have been times where allies were crossed and enemies aided to prevent the collapse of a species and it is a well known line for her.
The god is difficult to anger, but not difficult to call in her bad graces. Depending on the perceived slight, Satari can hold grudges for centuries and if she sees an opportunity to use her information at the detriment of someone then she will. This can happen even if the plan being foiled has nothing to do with the original slight.
Social
There are two general groups that are tied to Satari. Vampires and dragons of the Blood Dragonflight.
Vampires are known to worship her and, most importantly, keep and breed oxpeckers as pets.
Dragons in the Blood Flight are who she considers her most important allies. She will gift small flights of oxpeckers to dragons in the Blood Flight that she is fond of, or as payment or bribery. These flocks often clean the dragon's scales and remove other parasites. The dragons often do not notice, or do not care about, any lost blood taken by the oxpeckers during these cleanings. During the War of the Moon, the flocks have been known to be used to assist in war painting.
Satari is good at staying quiet, listening and planning ahead. While not known as a maker of deals, she has a skill at negotiation or at least convincing others to assist her whether they realize it or not. Oftentimes, without them gaining much from her. While she is not powerful enough to be outwardly aggressive, she has a pride and expectation of those around her to show respect.
It is unlikely that she will bow to another even stronger, instead work to undermine them to get herself on equal footing.
Satari’s tone is firm, often confident, and at times cold when discussing information. It is unlikely to get her to yell unless it is a response to be heard over another louder voice and anger rarely enters her words. However, insults are often incredibly specific, targetted, and with a touch of a threat of knowing too much.
Ally
Towards Mora, The God of Life
Ally
Towards Satari, God of Oxpeckers
History
Satari values Mora and their goal at protecting life. Satari has been known to assist Mora however she could if it would support the survival of a species. However, it is not idolization or pure trust, as she believes that Mora has far less reservations than her about an individual species facing extinction.
Not Enemy
Towards Ferventi, God of Wolves
Not Enemy
Towards Satari, God of Oxpeckers
History
Towards Ferventi, neutral. She views the god as arrogant and too likely to be focused on a hunt and distrusts the god’s penchant for violence. She also views him as likely to do something emotional and do something uncontrollable. The Battle of the Moon’s Rage felt more like a vindication than a tragedy to her, though she won’t speak of it. She is, however, open with her praise of him stepping down to recover. She has no personal grudges against Ferventi and will not go out of her way to hurt him, and their paths rarely ever cross.
Satari is wealthy and, when under a mortal guise, often an investor in large organizations or companies. She uses modern technology and often has things before they are available to market. This is likely because if there are engineers or scientists in a company that worship Satari, there is a belief that providing her with the intellectual property will gain her attention and protect form corporate espionage.
