The Red Inquisition, commonly referred to simply as The Inquisition across Arboria, is a zealous religious faction embedded within the ethos of the Church of the Mason, also known as the Masonites. While often perceived as an offshoot of the militant Masonite Order, tasked with performing the church's more ruthless deeds, they are in reality autonomous, answering to no singular authority. They mainly operate within the borders of Ardechia, Kyrus, and Vishigrad. The inception of The Inquisition dates back to the formative days of the Kingdom of Ardechia, in the wake of the collapse of the Masonite Kingdom. The burgeoning realm recognized the persistent scourge of unholy threats that continually plagued humanity - heretics tainted by malevolent faiths, monsters lurking in the wildlands, cursed wretches inflicted with unnameable afflictions, spectral apparitions that haunted the night, parasitic vampires feeding on the innocent, demons from the netherworld seeking dominion, and other unworldly horrors. To counteract these relentless menaces, The Inquisition was instituted as a fanatical order, dedicated to the relentless pursuit and zealous eradication of these threats. It was conceived to operate independently, outside the jurisdiction of both the church and the monarchy, for even the highest echelons were not immune to suspicion. The mere presence of an Inquisitor commands both reverence and fear, from the humblest serf to the loftiest of kings. Recruits are handpicked from the most devout followers within the church's ranks, subjected to a rigorous regimen of gruelling trials and stringent indoctrination. This process sharpens their abilities and tempers their resolve, forging them into the unwavering, ruthless, and unflinching bulwark humanity desperately requires. Characterized by their reticence, they speak sparingly, expecting others to address them only when solicited. Their aura of formidable authority instills dread, not only in their primary targets but also in any practitioner of magic. After all, magic is heresy, a path that invariably leads to unholy temptation. Tasked with identifying and obliterating any divergence from their accepted norm, Inquisitors employ overwhelming force to permanently eradicate these deviations, fulfilling their sacred duty as the cleansing fire against the darkness encroaching upon humanity.
