Stone Portal Building / Landmark in Realm-R | World Anvil

Stone Portal

There were three portals in Realm-R, each maintained by a respective Divine Being. The Stone Portal resides just outside of Lakamha and is maintained by Divine Being Kyle (a.k.a. Caelestis, a.k.a. the maize god).
Each portal has an Earthern counterpart so people can move from Earth to Realm-R and vice versa. The Diving Beings are able to connect any Earth portal to any Realm-R portal (and vice versa) though there is rarely a need to do so and is just a big supernatural pain to do so. The portals in Realm-R are easily found in accessible areas, whereas the portals on Earth are usually in secret places that are hard to get to and not easily accessed. This, in part, reflects the knowledge those in Realm-R have of Earth and the lack of knowledge those on Earth have of Realm-R. As well as the desire from the three Divine Beings to keep it that way.

Purpose / Function

The portal was built to allow travel between Earth and Realm-R. Only people (humans and those with human ancestors) as well as Divine Beings may use the portal.
Initially, this portal was built to bring the Maya of Palenque to Realm-R in order to guard the Divine Prisoner (the Kukulkan). Afterwards, it has mostly been used by Travellers on missions from Kyle.

Architecture

The portal is built from Stone Vine bricks. The portal stands above one of the largest stone vine ore clusters that have breached the surface. The stone vine is both base material for the portal, as well as power source. The stone vine that made it's way to the surface was refined and a process was taught to the Lakamhaans to create the intricate inner workings of the portal pieces so that they can keep up the physical maintenance of the portal. Every generation of Lakamhaan have a specific scientist that specialises in creating new portal brick pieces. This generation has Hadwin.

The connection between Realm-R and Earth can only be initiated by a Divine Being (including a Divine Prisoner). However, once made, the portal can stay connected for thousands of years.

Explosion

A moment after Traveller Cody came through the portal to Realm-R, the stone portal was destroyed via explosion. Cody was unharmed physically, but was stuck in Realm-R until the portal could be rebuilt. Hadwin usually had spare bricks to build the portal, but had recently been robbed of all materials related to the portal. No doubt a ploy from Kulkulkan.
Cody decided to join the Lakamhaans in gathering all the required materials. As much as the portal looks as if it is mostly built from stone and vine, there are a number of refining processes needed in order to make the portal work as a gate between two different realms. Thus, they have to gather materials from the stone cliff, monsters, the forest and under the sea.

Owner
Kyle, with hair as yellow as corn and eyes as brown as soil, is the Divine Being who sent Cody (a 16 year old boy from Australia) to Realm-R to send a message to the Lakamhaans that their Divine Prisoner is attempting to escape Realm-R with help from Traveller Daz (a scientist from Earth). He is the one who created the portal, 'forcibly evolved' the Maya people into the Lakamhaans and created the armbands a Traveller needs to wear in order to survive the environment in Realm-R.
