The Treaty of Bermound

"It has been decreed on this day by the royal lineage of the Rutgars and the major clans of the Bermound Mountain that peace has won. Both parties have come to an agreements of a cease fire and no further conflicts are to take place between any forces that owe fealty to either side. The terms of the cease fire are binding to all and any defectors will be punished to the fullest extent of the law."   ~ Rutgarian Town Crier

Purpose

The purpose of this document was to stop the over 50 years of constant war between the Rutgarian people, and the inhabitants of the Bermound Mountain. The cease fire was to last for only three months or the conclusion of the terms of peace, whichever came first.

Historical Details

Public Reaction

At first the public on both sides saw the treaty as a temporary respite to allow both sides to rally their forces before conducting battle again. The first week of the cease fire was tense on the front lines with each side reacting to any changes in forces with force that bordered breaching of the cease fire terms. After the following month the citizens relaxed after news spread that agreeable terms were being struck between both parties and that peace was a genuine interest on both sides.

Legacy

The Treaty of Bermound started the political relationship that has caused the powerhouse that the Rutgarian kingdom has become. The alliance between both kingdoms has made it impossible for any other political power to claim more territory in the north without having to yield to the accords of peace that were struck long ago. Territorial disputes between the kingdoms still happen and any that cannot be solved amicably do result in military conflict, but none on the scale of the initial war that started this unlikely alliance.
