Before everything went to the nine hells in a breadbasket, Victor had backed himself into a bit of a corner with his magic. Desperate to get out of Barovia and viewing Stella as an obstruction, he used mind magic on her, breaking her mind temporarily, as well as killing two servants when he tested his teleportation circle. The party intervened, convinced him to try repairing the damage he did, and then stayed around long enough for Stella to find her own way of keeping her fiance's magic directed away from her.
