Gravehunter's Ring
Ring of Necrotic Resistance
Introduction
Gravehunter's Rings, or known more formally as Rings of Necrotic Resistance, are one of the most common magical items within Haven. They grant the wearer the ability to better resist the vile necrosis caused by the undead and dark spell casters. A very useful trait in a land filled with the living dead. So many of these rings have been forged and enchanted that they have almost no economic value remaining. If you need one, you likely can find one at the nearest pyre pit.
Appearance
Originally, when they were known as Rings of Necrotic Resistance, silversmiths would dedicate time to making each ring look unique. The most common theme being that of either more skeletal appearance to the ring to imply what they ward off or a few carefully laid gemstones to make the ring nearly shine, even in dim light. Today, it is rare to find one of these rings that are not just ring-shaped with a small skull stamp at the front. Some don't even take the time to use the stamp, but these often get thrown away by corpse looters when they assume them to be non-magical.
Variants
With how biologically exclusive the Hulm language is, there are several variants on the Gravehunter's Ring that involve using a different language to write the Ward found on the inside of the ring. Rings with Wards written in a non-Hulm tongue are often larger because of the amount of writing required and only useable by larger Sophonts or Dwarves. Additional variants include a rumored ring to supply immunity to the magical necrosis rather than enhanced resistance.
Manufacturing process
With a very similar smithing process as making a normal ring, the major difference is making sure to lay the piece Blackstone on the inside of the ring so it is always touching the wearer. The piece of Blackstone then has a ward written on it in Hulm. This can be done in other languages, but will require a larger piece of Blackstone making it less accessable to those with thin fingers.
Historical Record
Rings of Necrotic Resistance were fairly common before the Fall of Lady Death, but they were hard to find and the process of making them was not yet simplified, requiring a Ward of almost 11 words in length, opposed to the modern 4. When they became more of a necessity than a niche item, innovative craftsmen were quick to make as many as they could to fill the new demand. And fill their coin purses.
