Iminiyas
A military settlement dominated by its castle and port on the western coast of Asrinehim proper, Iminiyas is the ancestral home of the disgraced House Gildaron and has been the key line of defence against invasion from within the Aedrinaran Islands for centuries. Once a grand fortress and mighty castle, Iminiyas remains a key settlement but has faded from the frontline Vaniri politics since the fall of House Gildaron and the cities envelopment into the Northern League.
Although small, the town is densely packed and holds a strategic position by coast and land. Able to monitor and protect by sea and land, the castle settlement remains a key point of Thevensyne's control of Northern Asrinheim. The town houses mainly soldiers, smiths, stable masters, and a collection of miners and farmers that live within its walls and head out into the mountains and fields during the day.
In Duskfall, 1052, 3e, Iminyas fell to a coup orchestrated by a returned Mothrar Gildaron with the aide of The Dragon Clan. Now poised to throw Asrinheim into a conflict not seen since the War of the Great Houses, Iminiyas finds itself on the centre stage once again.
Demographics
Iminiyas is a miltiary industrial town focused on the production of arms, armour, and some ships. Utilising its surrounding mines to fuel their grand forges and specialising in the education of smiths and military leaders, the bastion town has a mix of military and labourer classes all specialising in warfare. A smaller school of war mages also exists, an Iminiyassian education focuses heavily on evocation and martial training.
A smaller merchant class can be found, and surrounding agricultural workers of poorer backgrounds feed the engine of war the town actually is. Most, barring the most prominent smiths and military officers, live modest to poor lives.
Ethnically, Iminiyas is a majority Ice Elf settlement. No other race or culture has established any key communities or enclaves within the town or its surrounding areas. The only exception were the nearby Aarakocra who once held a small outpost on a nearby mountain as part of the Star Ranger Core. Since the breaking of the Eastern Seal, this community has abandoned their home to return to the Great City of Aaqa.
Government
In the post-war period of the War of the Great Houses, Iminiyas was governed by a gerentocracy of elders. The 7 eldest citizens of Iminiyas formed a council that would oversee the city on behalf of House Ardiylir in Thevensyne with occasional governors being sent to oversee this eldership.
In 1052, 3e, this council were overthrown and Mothrar Gildaron reinstalled themselves as Elder of Iminiyas, forming a 'council' of loyal subjects to aide them, but fundamentally being a dictator.
History
Iminiyas was founded in the mythic age as a castle and small port for the Ice Elves to help battle the Cult of the Forgotten Gods. A key fortress in protecting the island from cultist incursions and helping to ship supplies out to their battle lines in Aedrinar proper, Iminiyas would find itself under regular assault by demons and cultists alike.
House Gildaron, led by the heroic Torin, had protected the keep throughout the war and after Frigga's ascension they settled into the keep as its rightful elders. Keeping a close relationship with the other northern houses of Ardiylir and Rayes and began to develop their small fortress into a settlement.
Capitalising on nearby mines and fields, Iminiyas was capable of supporting its sizeable garrison and became the fortress keep it is today. United under Gildaron leadership, the city controlled a solid swathe of Northern Asrinheim, but still paled in comparison to the Ardiyilir family of Thevensyne, but was stronger than the smaller House Rayes of Sel Thiran.
During the Jotun-Vaniri war, Iminiyas would face constant onslaught from the giant forces in 7 key battles. Although the town would fall, the sizeable grounds of the keep – Falcon’s Roost, and the cunning and determination of Elder Isildrin Gildaron would stop the town from falling completely. A combined host of Rayes, Springfasts, and Ardiylir forces would liberate the town with a heroic sortey led by Elder Isildrin, which claimed their life.
Iminiyas would continue as a key military outpost, Isildrin’s sister Asildir prioritising military training and forging. The castle and port would be expanded and Iminiyas become the bastion of Asrinheim, its key line of defence against Aedrinaran and potential Jotun attacks.
Seasnake's Invasion
These defences would be tested by the late 1st age, when in 2840, 1e, High King Haarold I Seasnake invaded Asrinheim. Whilst preoccupied with the Southern reaches of the Vaniri territory, a fleet led by Gurstold Kirkguard, came to attack Iminiyas. In the Battle of Falcon’s Bay, the Gildaron Fleet and Aedrinarans would battle for 18 hours, ending in a phyrric victory for the Gildarons. The majority of their fleet was destroyed, and the resulting carnage of burning ships had set fire to their ports, coastal homesteads, and drydocks. Later land raids by Aedrinarans would pillage Iminiyas’ surrounding homesteads and farms, starving the town of ores and food. Iminiyas would capitulate with the other Vaniri houses at the Congress of Thenvesyne in 2844. Iminiyas became a tributary of the Third Kingdom of Aedrinar, devoting taxes and resources to the human kingdom. Iminiyas warriors likely participated in the Aedrinaran expedition to the mainland to face Soulthek, with family legends of notable Iminiyas warriors, including Rasildran Gildaron, being amongst them. As the second age dawned, the Vaniri struck out in rebellion. Elder Haristar Gildaron the Bold would be instrumental in this rebellion, uniting the Northern Houses against the Aedrinarans and eventually leading liberation battles throughout Asrinheim. Rollo I would attempt to retake Asrinheim, and was slain outside of Iminiyas by the Gildaron army, securing Vaniri liberation. Despite this heroic deed, Iminiyas was supplanted again by nearby Thevensyne as the unofficial capital of Asrinheim, and a growing resentment began to grow in the coming millennia. Iminiyas would grow steadily, swelling in population by the onset of the War of the Great Houses.War of the Great Houses
The leader of Iminiyas, Elder Mothrar Gildaron , would be the catalyst for the century spanning civil war when they raided the neighbouring Rayes outposts and keeps. Iminiyas became a war capital, swelling in production and its citizens forced into a total war economy as soldiers or producers of key resources. Art and culture dwindled, as the main theatre was torn down to expand the stone walls and priceless artefacts were sold to traders to build up a war fund. As the city started the war, it was only fitting its fall would end it. Iminiyas was surrounded by the Ardilyir’s by land and House Salinir by sea. Internal revolt would oust House Gildaron, and the city gates were opened. In retribution, Gildaron loyalists burnt much of the town and keep killing thousands. Elder Mothrar was slain and their body thrown into the bay. Iminiyas’ size was halved in the aftermath of the war, and slow centuries of regrowth resumed. The city became a member of the Ardiylir led Northern League, and a steady reconstruction of its docks and keep, as well as building new walls and gates to accommodate its smaller size, began.Post-War Period
By the 500s, Iminiyas had regained some of its status – but the invasions of King Olaf III Kingmaker across the eastern isles and Furunheim, and Iminiyas’ inability to repel or defend their elven allies, damaged the prestige of the town and its status of Asrinheim’s Bastion. In response, the elder council would secretly increase the production of weapons and armour and use Skallen Syndicate assets, orchestrated by the Summerfrost Syndicate, into occupied territory. Iminiyas arms and ships would fuel the Fury Rebellion and Salinir Reconquests, the city restored to a protector image by the reign of High King Karl III. Since then, Iminiyas has continued as a producer of arms and armour and a trainer of warriors. Although relations between the three kingdoms of the isles are warmer than ever, Iminiyas still stood as a threatening obstacle to any invader. In 1052, 3e, elemental portals and poor management of the town would stir civil unrest. This was secretly orchestrated by a returned Mothrar Gildaron, working with The Dragon Clan, and by Duskfall he announced his return and couped the local government, re-establishing the bastion as the seat of House Gildaron and poised the town for a renewed war against the other Great Houses.
