House Ardiylir

Amongst the greatest of the 13 Great Houses of Asrinheim, House Ardiylir, the Tamers of the North, have been the de-facto most powerful house since the end of the War of the Great Houses at the end of the 2nd age. Ruling from their Three Towers in the unofficial capital of Asrinheim, Thevensyne, House Ardiylir claim dominon over the North of Asrinheim. Governers of Thevensyne, Mayrin, Icespire, and until The Piper siezed control of it, Iminiyas.   Headed officially by Elder Theralin Ardiylir, the house is under the regency of their brother, Myrkir Ardiylir, secretly The Flame, a member of The Dragon Clan. Technically in conflict with The Piper, this is all a grand scheme for Gildaron to sieze control of Asrinheim - threatening the reputation and status of the Great House.

History

Founded back in the Vale of the Elves, the Ardiylir's fled the continent alongside Frigga and the other 13 houses. Arriving in Sudalfenland, the Ardiylir's became the backbone of Frigga's army. Led by the gallant and valiant Paryis Ardiylir. The family stayed with Frigga throughout her time and conquests, being her 'right hand' and forming the backbone of her army and diplomacy. When Frigga invaded Asrinheim itself, they spearheaded the charge up the island.   Alongside Houses Rayes and Gildaron, the Ardiylir's would fight in the Long Night to oust the Forgotten Gods in northern Asrineheim. As a reward, they were given the richest and most propserous part of the island, founding Thevensyne near the battle ground they battled the cultists in. Building up the grand city, the Ardiylir's were considered the 'rulers' of the Vaniri following Frigga's assencion for a brief time, before the cities and houses grew more distant from each other. They would spearheaad Vaniri resistance to the Jotun in the Jotun-Vaniri war, commanding the Coalition and helping to recruit Aedrinarian mercenaries.   Thevensyne and its surrounding lands offered plentiful hunting, ideal for trade being in the heart of Asrinheim, and prosperous mining in the mountains. The Ardiylir's, and their people, grew rich throughout the Age of Isolation and were seen as amongst the most powerful families in the realm. High King Haarold I Seasnake would lead Aedrinarian armies into Asrinheim in the 2880s of the 1st age, and despite the Ardiylir's attempting to unifiy a combined Vaniri resistance their armies were ambushed in the Massace of the Bloody Yew in 2843, 1e. The surrender of other houses saw the Ardiylir's invite the remaining independent rulers to Thevensyne, where they signed a capitulation agreement and became vassals of the Third Kingdom of Aedrinar.   This capitulation ended in the early years of the 2nd age, when Elder Haristar Gildaron formed a secret pact with the Rayes and Ardiylirs and stopped paying tributes. They led liberations of other Vaniri occupied settlements, and the House weilded their political and economic powers to free Asrinheim in its entirity by 28, 3e when Rollo I was killed at the hands of the Gildarons.   The Aridylir's propsered in the coming peace, and again resumed their capital status despite House Gildaron and Iminiyas being more instrumental in the liberation of Asrinheim, starting a growing resenment between the two houses.   At the onset of the War of the Great Houses, the Ardiylir's had no interest in battling their brethren. Mothrar Gildaron, however, had other ideas. Launching his invasions into Ardyilir and Rayes territory, the family battled hard for the century long conflict, throwing their wealth and soldiers at their enemies.   Despite being unable to save House Rayes, their staunch allies, the family would storm Iminiyas and defeat Gildaron - casting him into the sea. In the aftermath, the Ardilyir's assumed soverignty of the Northern territories of Asrinheim and helped establish Icespire. This new influx of tribute and resources allowed the family to recover, and the ousting of House Summerfrost to the south saw their debts to the lumberers of Tyris Ren wiped out.   This quick recovery allowed them to truly become the most powerful family in Asrinheim. The remaining great houses paled in comparision. Since the end of the war, only Houses Moonbow and Alyse have come close to rivalling them. The family would be one of the stronger elven factions to join the Commonwealth coalition during the 40 Year War, devoting many soldiers to the Tumbrian campaign.   In 1052, the house's head, Theralin, became sick. Their brother, Myrkir, assumed regency and heirship. Theralin's son, Urmas, had originally been the heir as Myrkir was to 'pass' on the title upon Theralin's death - but their brother's sudden illness ended this plan and the family are now in a conflict with a returned Mothrar Gildaron. Simutaneously, they hunt 'disgraced' traitor Gallus - once trying to arrest them in Ferenvire before being sent away by Arystyr Furyborn.

Alternate Timeline

In the alternate timeline created by Primus where Doomed 2 Die never met, Gallus was a member of the house - married to Urmas and Isa both. The house was destroyed in the fall of Thevensyne by Fenrir.
