The New Gods - the Syntyvä Religion
In the wake of the Blightsource Crater Explosion , a new religion has emerged on Arathel. The acolytes of the Syntyvä ("Emergent") religion evangelize a pantheon of New Gods; they claim that The Old Gods are false. According to the Syntyvä devoted, the Old Gods were not divine, but tricks and elaborate arcane rituals conducted by false clerics to give the appearance of prayers being answered and to fool the populous into supporting the clergy's donation-based lifestyle. As the Syntyvä pantheon is quite young, little is known about the range of divine powers and the god's preferences and proclivities except what is espoused by the members of this evangelical priesthood. Acolytes of the Syntyvä religion claim that four high gods (Ndu, Losse, Morkemmen, and Henvarda ) shepherd and support numerous lower gods who oversee aspects of daily life. These lower gods hold dominion over many of the day to day events in the lives of Quelian denizens.
Structure
There are four principle divines, or "high gods", in the Syntyvä religion and many subordinate divines, or "lower gods". Among the high gods, Ndu is the Paragon (or head) of the pantheon that oversees the lower gods. The three other high gods are Losse, Morkemmen, and Henvarda. Beneath the four principle divines are numerous "lower gods" who work to enact the will of the "high gods" and to guide the day to day activities of the denizens of Quel.
History
The Syntyvä religion was founded in the wake of the Blightsource Crater Explosion and the resulting sharp decline in the direct influence of The Old Gods. This new religion was founded when Ndu revealed itself to former farmer, Kesa Modwinn, who lost nearly everything in the crater explosion. Kesa's fields were stripped bare and charred. She barely survived the force of the explosion. Ndu revealed itself to her as she was trying to scrape together what remained of her home. Ndu's divine vision drove Kesa to emerge from the wilds to proselytize the coming of the New Gods and to establish the Syntyvä Religion . Kesa's rebirth led to the choice of the name of religion and its symbol of a phoenix rising from the ashes. In the 25+ years since its founding, the the Syntyvä Religion has grown, with new churches and followers popping up throughout Arathel. In fact, the fledgling religion has even constructed two cathedrals that rival those to the Old Gods; one in Hyton and the other in the free city of Kabisa.
