4/16/23 - The Corruption at Wolf's Moot
General Summary
The heroes of Welcome Tasks finally arrived back to Gnoll Bane after leaving the village almost a month ago. In their absence, the village has thrived with the large number of Tabaxi that have congregated as well as a burgeoning goblin refuge. After weighing their options, our hero’s decided that their next plan of action was to escort the surveyors to the Vorua Pleaura and then make for Gif territory and the ancient library that is hidden in those lands.
In the meantime, Malikae performed his ritual to Helm while the others gathered supplies. There was some less than adequate bartering, but eventually they were able to get adventuring gear, three potions of healing, and 15 gallons of animal fat to burn the library down with. With everything set in place, the party headed to the way-point of Wolf's Moot .
This ruined structure and outpost was unsettling, as the Tabaxi had taken to adorning the structure with the corpses of the Gnolls that they had killed. The captain of this patrol, Flayer, clearly had seen the horrors of war and while he allowed the party to rest in the camp, his demeanor was off. The diviners, as well as Gimble, were quick to pick up on the fiendish nature of this place and eventually found the source of the evil.
A demon that looked like a common moss had been growing on one of the gate frames was causing all sorts of havoc on the Tabaxi here. In addition to its paradoxical aura, if left undisturbed the moss would have eventually caused the opening it was growing on to form a planar gate. A fight broke out as the demon defended itself and Flayer and his men tried to halt the party. In the end, the moss was defeated, Flayer was subdued, and the post surrendered. However, interrogating the deranged Tabaxi left more questions than answers.
On his person was an iron sword and tattoo ink that shimmered with magic, and when asked about it, the Tabaxi stated that the items as well as a piece of the moss were gifted to him by the leader of Black Glade. Our heroes are concerned that an evil has crept in over the village and suspect that The Tabaxi Sisters they have encountered previously may have a hand in it. However Welcome Tasks is on a timetable for the library and for now saving Black Glade may be placed towards the bottom of their to-do list.
