3/24/21 - Troubles Along the River

General Summary

A survey was taken of this cobwebbed ruin. Malikae determined that this shrine was that of Soi Me, God of Plants. Seeing as it was the right thing to do, the party cleared out the spiderwebs and Slayer used his knowledge of local plants to carefully plant several wild flowers within the shire. The Tabaxi was rewarded for his offering and was marked as a "Devotee of Soi Me" and was given a mystical aura to protect himself.   After taking a long rest, Welcome Tasks decided there was no time to waste and traveled up the Waukeen River at night. Things went less than smoothly as night time is prime hunting hours for hungry hydras. Initially, combat went poorly as being stuck in a boat and unable to move allowed the hydra to attack freely from a distance. However, Melkor was able to show his grit and a well placed fireball almost slayed the hydra outright. With hydras now being only a minor speed bump in their journey, the party traveled until dawn, where they rested once more. There was a strange phenomenon at dawn. Melkor remarked seeing a deer of light racing across the river and then vanishing as the sun rose. This has not been the first time Welcome Tasks has seen this. They are very familiar with the God of Horizons, Bin Min , but they are unsure about this event. Whatever it was, it seemed liked something to note, but not of major concern   Early the next day, Welcome Tasks reached Union Lake ; the central location for the tribes of Lizardfolk, Tabaxi, and Gif. Passing through the massive lake, they attempted to barter with some of the friendly Lizardfolk. Magnus' absence was felt as no one could speak draconic, and in the end they left empty handed. The interaction though was not completely fruitless. There was a surprising amount of disdain towards our Cleric of Helm , and Malikae felt that him spreading the word of his God may have created a faux pas.   When the party rested that night, Malikae's faux pas had more serious consequences. There was an ambush of Lizardfolk who seemed only concerned with murdering the Dwarf. Welcome Tasks was caught flat footed, as only Melkor was on watch, and the rest were un-armored. The Lizardfolk tried their hardest to kill Malikae, even going as far as to Heat Metal the only protection he had, a kite shield. However, Welcome Tasks is head and shoulders above these mere reptiles, and despite outnumbering them 2:1, the Lizardfolk were met with a swift death.   Now dawn is rising once more, and there are nine days before Malikae is required at Temple Helm. Clearly our heroes are having an impact on the world, but sometimes it is not always a positive one.
