Act 4:1
Kutsukku is different.
It spirals up higher than he remembered, smog and dirty water circling it like death.
Home.
He .. doesn't miss it. The smell, the sounds. The mess.
The open sea was liberating, and his heart sings to get back out there - powered by wind a wave and a dream.
He.. almost doesn't come back.
He misses his family, his friends. But he's not sure he can weather their rejection.
The band on his wrist is frayed and long since lost it's smell, more replacement thread than anything else. He'd started to weave his own hair in the last few months, unsure if the universe was telling him not to go back or if he was being a coward.
His bond broke somewhere around then, distance finally letting him free of a stupid child mistake.
Ska is still with him, along with two new betas he'd fallen in with on the sea, Boogie and Mosh. The trio follow him around like ducklings, much to his last crew's amusement.
"You got a magnetic personality," Captain had told him, "Embrace it."
"Its not just an alpha thing?" Kidd - no William, he's William here - had asked her.
The captain, an alpha herself, and smiled wryly at him. "No. Not an alpha thing. There's something about you, Eustace, that sucks all the attention of the room to ya. You gonna end up a King or Monster, but I'll put money down now that you'll shake the heavens by the time you're done. You're name will rattle in people's heads long after your gone."
The woman looked at him seriously for a moment. "Just make sure you're proud of the reason why, yeah?"
Kidd didn't know about all that.
3 years, and he knew the way home without a second glance. Streets moved, buildings changed, but his feet knew the way all the same. He might be the magnet, but here was always one thing on the horizon he'd always been pulled to, bond or no bond. They've consolidated, since he was gone. His family and that of his rivals. He's not surprised; the animosity between Hearth and Killer was pretty skin deep when he left, and with Hearth's Pup, he's not surprised Killer would continue to loiter around the older omega. Always had a soft spot for the unlucky and small. He sees Quincy first - and then Compo with her. Hip and Hop... Then the girls are looking back at him and Quincy's running up the hill before anyone else can move - the pack exploding into noise and movement. He and Ska are smothered in hugs and scents, and he's crying like a fool as he hugs them back, and its been a lifetime and no time all at once. He's tackled by Bubblegum next, picked up and swung around, then UK is lifting up over his head with a cheer. Papas gets a hug in once he's lowed, whispering soft happy noises as they butt heads. Then it's all quiet, because Killer is there, and Kidd has never been so scared or happy and he doesn't know which way to feel, except Killer looks good. He's taller, tanner, not so skinny even if he still twiggy. His hair's long and braided back, and there's a scruff of a bread on his chin and Kidd's heart is going to break out and fly away. He's taller than Killer; somehow he's taken over his friend in height during his time away, making it easy to rub his temples all over his friend and Killer laughs - that stupid ridiculous sound of his that Kidd adores. He's never going to let this man go. 3 years, and a broken bond, and it will kill Kidd to leave him again. His best friend, back at his side and it's impossible to miss the awe in Killer's voice. "You came back."
