Void Beasts

Spiritual manifestations of magic that have pulled themselves from The Void and onto the material plane. They are known to take on the mutated form of Fauna that they encounter or choose to take the form of. They are extremely dangerous creatures when they are provoked showing both an unnatural strength and endurance. While they have existed for as long as mankind has had the ability to paint upon cave walls, little is actually known about these creatures their solitary lifestyle and aggressive nature to most people prevents study.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures often resemble a random normal animal from a distance, though normally far larger and from up close they show a number of mutations. In some cases are known to have taken the shape of humanoids or undefinable beings, though these are far rarer. They are often completely oil black.

Biological Traits

They are unnatural creatures with complex biological structures as a wide degree of their bodies do not operate like normal creatures as they seem to shift over time. They all though take on an enlarged appearance of another species along with numerous mutations. They all appear to be highly mutated to some degree.
They are creatures of great resistance to magic and appear to have the ability to sense its usage. They also do not decay like normal creatures upon death, their bobies are known to slowly evaporate untill not but bones, which are rare, remain of the creature.

Genetics and Reproduction

The exact method of their sexual reproduction, if any actual happens, is unknown. They are thought to only appear from a spirit leaving the void, melding out of shadows that form a singular being. This has been very rarely viewed and reports are rarely consistanct

Growth Rate & Stages

Once they pull themselves into the natural world they appear often as the young of the species they are imitating the form of. Within a few years, they will reach the adulthood of their imitated species. From then on they slowly grow over the course of decades, there is no real know limit to their growth in size. Records exist of some of these beings growing to the size of small buildings or ships, though normally they are put down by local populations before they can expand further.

Ecology and Habitats

They are capable of surviving in most environments though they prefer areas of great flourishing life whether flora or fauna. This though seems to be in connection with natural hotspots of life essence and the intersection of lay lines. This although often brings them into conflict with whatever other creatures who move to the area for its resources.

Dietary Needs and Habits

An omnivorous species that the preferences of each individual Void Beast seem to differ. It is theorized that it is less the nutrients they are feeding on and more the life essence that was in the organism that they are consuming. Even those of the smallest size are seeming able to eat man times its own body weight in sise.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The species is normally located in areas of flourishing life and arcane energy. This leaves them kinds sporadically populated across the world and often time constantly migratory with no reliable way of tracking. The only place that can found on a constant basis is the southern land of Veneer.

Average Intelligence

Undefineable as some have been shown to show intelligence and problem-solving skills equal to the mortal races, while others are violent brutal creatures that appear to be utterly mindless

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They seem to be able to perceive the world with extremely enhanced senses of all categories, whether the animal they have taken the shape have those sense or not. It is also known they have some amount of detection of arcane energies being creatures born of the Void as well, how they perceive these energies though is unknown, although it is assumed this sixth sense is innate. Some Magi theories that they do not view reality at all but view the essence of life flowing through all creatures.

Conservation Status

The only people known to protect them are the Veneer people who seem to have some form of bond with the people of those lands. The rest of the world tends to avoid or actively hunt the creature.

Average Physique

They are extremely strong creatures regardless of how they appear. Their forms often hide extreme amounts of muscles. They are often capable of ripping through steel plate armor with relative ease.

They are consistently oil black in color.
