Salindran

"You see that flashing over there? That's a salindran. Don't get too close to it, okay son?"
— A father

A Light in the Dark

Known for their distinctive flashing, salindrans are large, cat-like predators. Their bodies are covered in thick, mottled bronze fur, with dark stripes across them.   When a salindran senses another predator nearby, the dark stripes across its body begin to pulse a light blue from their head to their tail. The pulsing slowly gets faster and faster the longer they sense a predator. Eventually, if the predator isn't deterred by the lights of their fur and reveals themself, the salindran will let out an immense roar. No sound accompanies this roar, it is a force of pure energy, and is capable of searing into most other predators in a pure blue light.   Salindrans hunt at night, searching for any prey they can find, from rabbits to large deer. They hunt alone, but usually not far from where another salindran of their family might be hunting.

A Force in the Night

Born live, salindrans hunt alongside their parents while they mature, a process that takes approximately four months. During those four months, they grow rapidly, needing more and more food, and learning to hunt and care for the others of their family as they do.   Salindrans are not unkind to people, however they are still a creature to be wary of. While they won't outright attack a person without believing them to be a threat, in which case their stripes will begin to pulse, they may see you as food if their hunt has not been terribly successful.   A few have been able to tame a salindran, though it is no easy task to do so, as should you misstep during your attempt to make one your companion, they could very well turn hostile. They value trust and care over all else, sacrificing their own food supply for their family if necessary, so an act of betraying their values will shatter any chance you may have had in being able to walk alongside them for the rest of your life. Even if you do tame a salindran, you must continue to show their values, no matter the situation, otherwise they will abandon you.
