Coin Dragon

"Dizzi, are you rea-, oh I see. Working on them still?"
"It has to work, Vjal! You don't understand!"
"Dizzi, I'm the only one who understands... We lost Augusta almost two years ago, and you haven't stopped working on these since. Maybe it's time to rest, time to let yourself heal."
"NO! I NEED THEM TO WORK! THEY HAVE TO WORK! FOR HER, VJAL, EVERYTHING I DO NOW IS FOR HER!"

The Last Invention

Over her many, many years of life, Dizzi Glitterboom invented a great many things and accomplished a great many acts, but if you could ask her what her greatest accomplishment was, she would tell you about the small creatures she created. Painstaking work over years, with immensely delicate runescribing and just the right balance of materials, lead to the creation of the coin dragon.   More of a novelty to most who would witness it, the coin dragon is much what it sounds like. It's a simple coin crafted of cobalt and when a word or phrase of power is uttered, it transforms itself into a minute dragon.   The dragon itself is harmless, but is otherwise capable of anything that an actual dragon is able to do, from flying to crawling, and being a permanent companion for as long as the magic lasts.

The Final Result

Despite the popularity of coin dragons amongst children, out of the hundred or so that Dizzi made after perfecting them, very few are actively known about and used, the rest lie dormant somewhere in the world.   The first and last coins, however, lie with Dizzi. According to stories from her wife, Vjal, Dizzi has even threatened anyone who has asked to buy them from her.
After years of work, a tired Dizzi sits at her workshop bench, staring with wide, tear-filled eyes at her creation.   The first of a hundred, she thought to herself.   After wiping her tears, she uttered the phrase that would bring a tiny metal dragon into this world, finally fulfilling the request of her greatest creation.   "I love you, Augusta."

I'm not crying, you're crying! What a beautiful concept! I'd love to have one of these little guys, but I won't ask Dizzy about them.   Keep up the good work!

I told you it was sad! You can find them in random places though, they’re rare but you can find them.
