Cape Baret

Just like home, all that's missing are the bird.
— Conall O'Hart, recent immigrant from Bushmills
Cape Baret, named after the first woman to cicumnavigate Earth, is one of Kent Prime's most famous natural wonders. It is located at the most southern tip of the continent New Oceania.   Like most of the continent is the result of volcanic activity. Since the planet's lifeforms are found only in the oceans, the landscapes are dominated by harsh mountainsides and sandy planes. Cape Baret is no exception in this regard. Its rare geological structures, however, make it quite unique.   The cape consists of cliffs and free standing pillars jutting out of the ocean, around 60 meters high on average. What makes it special, besides its location with ocean to three sides, is that the basalt rock they consist of formed in hexagonal columns, which form a honeycomb pattern. It is often likened to Giant's Causeway back on Earth, though Cape Baret is significantly larger, and the rock has a darker coloration.   After its discovery in 2124, the stark beauty of Cape Baret quickly brought it in the public eye. Once the population and infrastructure of the Alpha Centauri system had reached a point where tourism began to develop, the cape immediately became one of the most popular destinations.   A medium size settlement exists near the cape, far enough away to not disturb the site itself. It was originally founded around a meteorological observatory, though today many inhabitants work in hosting travelers come to see the sights. There also are a permanent Ekranoplan pier and a lighthouse and navigation beacon.

I like the history and clear impact this place has had on society. It sounds like a lovely place to visit.

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.
