Guards' Last Stand

The Guards' Last Stand is a historical site located in the Royal Throne Room of Boltan Castle in Borland. Marked by a metal plaque embedded in the floor, It is located just over 12 feet in front of the Golden Throne of Bartol, .   In AF 332, Captain of the Royal Guard Hertha Ralto was present when Raghnall Ralto assassinated his father Rynna Ralto in the Throne Room. Hertha was Rynna's older sister (and Raghnall's aunt) and had been part of the Royal Guard since AF 314, and along with her troops she put up a fierce defense of her brother. Despite their valourous efforts, she and three other members of the Royal Guard of Bartol were killed right in front of the Golden Throne while trying to defend the King.

In honor of that sacrifice, in AF 373 King Radek Ralto had a plaque placed at that location on the floor, commemorating the site as the "Guards' Last Stand". Since that time, at least one member of the Guard has been posted at that location at all times, and during formal sessions of the court, the Captain of the Guard (or their designated representative) stands there. Those posted at the site always have their weapons drawn and ready for use.
