Radek Ralto
Radek Fontaine Ralto was the fourth of the Ralto Kings, serving as King of Bartol from AF 373-398.
Born in AF 343 in Boltan Castle, he was the first son of Raghnall Ralto and Alaria Barrintel.
He met Alarice Vester in AF 366 and they were handfasted in AF 368. Their daughter Alaysreh was born in AF 379.
Alarice died in AF 383, unexpectedly but apparently of natural causes. Radek was unwilling to spend the money to have her raised, saying it must have been her time to go.
Radek himself died unexpectedly in 398, possibly of cardiac arrest after some horseplay with with youths in the courtyard at Boltan Castle. By his own request he was not raised either.
The lack of a male heir precipitated a crisis amongst the nobles of the Kingdom, as many of them (incorrectly) assumed that only a male could take the throne. While he knew better,
Robert Keranen worked with the Council and numerous other nobles to craft the Great Compromise, which solved the crisis by marrying Alaysreh to Tybalt Arenthal, thus providing a legitimate (if tenuous) connection to justify the transfer of power to a house other than Clan Ralto. As part of the deal, Alaysreh's cousin Kyward Ralto was made Prince of Valdmar, replacing the then-Prince Marko Esken.
