Burborea

A race of aquatic crustaceon based lifeforms. They are bipedal and possess 4 arms which are connected at the base with some kind of membrane in-between. They have 2 antennas protruding from their head, 4 on their backs and another 8 on their arms, which are very sensible and are able to track currents, heat and can even taste the water to "smell" any other substances. They are a peace loving race who was one of the first to settle in Latebra with the ocean their undisputed territory. They also had control over the ocean as their culture was in possession of a Unique art of ritualistic magic, called "Skyker". This skyker magic used specially crafted objects which were attuned to the sea and the creatures there and could influence them. This gave them considerable control over weather, sea and marine lifeforms. Because of their docile attitude they didn´t expand their influence and their numbers and cities only increased slightly over the years, but their relations with other races improved as they opened their cities to the dry lands above. All of their cities were underwater and to invite land dwellers into their homes they actually bred a certain species of parasitic eels which could grant the ability to breath under water. While most did not like this uncomfortable method some took the chance to visit a whole new world causing these first few courageous souls to be well received and showered in gifts. With a quick friendship established Burborea granted these few individuals access to their skyker magic giving them free reign on the oceans. These soon-to-be merchants were the progenitors of the Free Captains of the Far Reaches. Sadly their peaceful nature and low numbers became a big problem for the Burborea when the Trickster announced the calling of the swarm.  Every living being received a message containing the instinctual knowledge that after a Tenday the sea would be filled with new arrivals. The Burborea prepared their defenses and while they had some initial troubles they managed to safely endure these troubling times, it was many years later that they had to worry for their survival for the very first time. Another species of leech like bodies, named Angulians, established a dominance in the seas. Their ways were primitive barely more than animals but their numbers were overwhelming. For the first time in centuries the Burborea were forced to wage war. After many years of war the Burborea managed to find balance in their never ending conflict with the Angulians, but while the Angulians were driven mostly by instinct the Burborea were highly intelligent, capable of great magical feats and had made some allies to trade with. After years of conflict they developed tactics and magical rituals to help them fight back. Thus a balance was established were the Angulians were held at bay, with every fight won, by the Burborea and them being busy with constantly culling the Angulian numbers. This situation held strong for a long time time until the First War occurred. When the Empire suddenly tried to conquer the world they were surprised by the resistance they received either by the Humans and by the land. The Grukania Desert showed them a type of way of live they were utterly incompatible with. To further the expansion Naval armies were made even more important, but with that came the uncertain factor of the Burborea. One cannot conquer the sea while someone else controls it and while the Burborea were uninterested in waging war on anyone besides the Angulian the Eternal Empress found them to be an obstacle in her plans. With the angulians and the Empire to fight against, the small numbers of the Burborea were insufficient and finally their civilization was destroyed by the angulians through the intervention of the Elven Empire. While some say the Burborea where wiped out some whisper of hidden survivors.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
While the Burborean Language could not be spoken without their own Physiology the Burborea were very talented in linguistic endeavors and often learned very quickly to read and write a Language instead of speaking it. As a visitor, not being able to read or write or even just having a hard time, would cause one to be seen as a cripple.
