The Rift in Caeveit
INTRODUCTION
Toward the end of the fourth period, Loscin's chosen were seven in number in Abeon. This vast number of centrally located merciful created a time of tension for the council of chosen. This tension eventually led to what became known as 'The Rift in Caeveit', a reignition of the alchemy question which caused The First Magic War of Abeon thousands of years prior.
THE ALCHEMY QUESTION
The Rift began when decomancy started making its returns to the continent in the late 47th century. Tensions rose about the question of the purpose behind the Merciful in Abeon, with most siding on pascifism until the next great war. However, a few, namely Simon the Sunfeller, thought the Merciful should rule a country and seek to ensure peace through it. Younger members, such as Fayste and Guore were initially intrigued, but they both later flipped back to the wisdom of the elders. In 4704, at the outbreak of the northern rebellions in Traelec and the penninsula, Simon leapt at his chance and helped the revolt. However, when the knowledge of a return of the old darkness in Archia arrived in Caeveit, the other merciful also helped Claxton Pollard and the other Traelecii heros defeated the The Archian Empire. But the question of Alchemy and its ties to darker practices arose, and the rift in the council deepened. The eldest and most powerful of the merciful, Lunist the Merciful was an alchemist, and thus was alienated from the four merciful siding against the sorcery. In the latter days of 4742 4p, just before the landmark decsion by the merciful council to ban any members still practicing alchemy, Van the Warden, who was Lunist's husband, sent her away southward, to flee to the Tsondalian Free Empire- a free alchemist state. The two would not reunite until 4781 at the outset of the The Traelecii Civil War.
THE CAEVEIT QUESTION
Shortly after the resolution and tension from the alchemy question, Van and Guore participated in the rescueing of Jax Arden, the son of legendary general Claxton Pollard. Simon jumped at the chance to question whether sovereighnty was a problem for the merciful- creating a fued so brutal, assassination attempts were made. In the end, the Sunfeller took matters into his own hands and nearly destroyed the ruling class of Caeveit, crowning himself the Grand Warlock of the Blue Hills. The chosen council, hoping to avoid any more in-fighting, sided with Simon and allowed him to rule under their supervision. Van and Guore quieted their disagreements, but would later take part in his overthrow in 4782.
(LUNIST PREPARING TO LEAVE CAEVEIT, circa 4742)
The Rift and Tensions brought up by the two heated questions of Merciful's sovereignty affected all the merciful profoundly, but none were afected as much as Lunist the Merciful. The descion about Alchemy strained her marriage over forty years, destroyed her ability to aid in vital affairs of Loscin, and exiled her to the foreign land of Arvenon, Tsonlar. Her execution on earth would have ended her cosmic ability to descend from the cosmic plain and forever locked her in the eternal realm to fight the demon hordes of Kornon. Without the help of her husband, Evander, Lunist would never had been able to help Blaze Axton find life-saving help for Gordon Sanders, which would have created an extremely unlikely string of events leading to cosmic imbalance and the fall of Traelec.
