Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Halfling families use a last name indicating their family profession. Such as swept for street cleaners or chimney for chimney sweeps. They do not normally have a middle name but some halflings adopt one upon achieving a feat they are particularly proud of; the middle name will be something to remind them of the accomplishment.

Gender Ideals

Halfling society in the Illani Forest views gender and biological sex as identical. As such this the one area in which Perisian halflings tend to be more open minded due to their views of gender fluidity caused by their association with Perisian culture which views gender and sex as meaningless in a world in which one can simply change it with a spell.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Halflings speak in a fairly uniform language that originates from the pre diaspora times in the Illani Forest. As such most people consider the language they speak to simply be "halfling."

History

Native to the Illani Forest, halflings spread out during the Perisian Empire's conquests due to their strong work ethic and propensity to work the same monogamous jobs for generations. As such most street cleaners, garbage collectors and chimney sweeps  were halflings in Perisian cities.
This diaspora lead to two very distinct halfling cultures. One culture which developed as a lower class to Perisian mage society and the other which developed in the villages of their native homeland. The two are in many ways opposites with "Perisian halflings" tending to be far more insular and hierarchical then their Illani cousins.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Individual halflings get along well with other species considering their society generally keeps outsiders at an arms length. Thanks to their work ethic and propensity for honesty, they are regarded well throughout the former lands of the Perisian Empire.
