Session 07: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Furn

← Previous: Session 06: Ix or Nix

General Summary

Foggy was taken by Gherd for some unknown purpose. Kopala spent the session on his own.
At the Universalist Temple, the Coast Guard worked with Ting to come up with a few solutions:
  • Ting cast Gentle Repose on the corpse inside SNTR-1's body to prevent any more contamination while they figured out what to do with it
  • Each party member (that was present) submitted a request to The Lens of Oghma , which, according to Ting, connects directly to Oghma's home plane, the House of Knowledge. Three deeds to honor Oghma were required for this exchange. Leaf gave a fanfic of Mithril Man; Calloway gave a one-man show about their life with their rock friends; and all three spent the following day helping Ting set up the temple
  • SNTR-1 requested information on "planar botany". The day after the crew helped Ting at the Temple, a book arrived in the Lens. It was a book: On the Origin of Organics, written during the era of the Spellplague, and referred to the "Astral Sea" as the "Astral Plane". It detailed a few powerful entities with domains that include plant and fungal life: Zuggtmoy, the demon queen of fungi; Jubilex, the demon king of oozes and slimes; and Eldath, the NG Goddess of peace and nature. Other dieties with Nature domains also have potential dominion over fungus. The book said there wasn't much in the way of natural flora in the Astral Plane, as it is sort of a psychic realm.
  • Leaf requested a sort of traveler's guide to the Astral Sea, looking for information about how to get there, what to expect on that plane, in hopes of learning how the plague began and how they could look into solving it
  • Calloway requestedinfo on extraplanar plagues

  • After the Temple, the group went to Captain Caydense's office to debrief. They were completely honest but did not mention their suspicions about Klaus having a hideaway in the caverns below town. They met D I Furnace (aka Furn), a Spring Eladrin Rita Skeeter type who has been hired by the Baron to write a zine about the town every other week. They are known for doing journaling and graphic art in Waterdeep (Hidden Splendors -- Leaf is familiar because of Furn's work looking into groups of adventurers heading into The Undermountain), and are tasked with writing and drawing about the town as well as the adventures of the Coast Guard in specific. He and Calloway totally hit it off.
That night, SNTR-1 went to Eidella and found her fortuitously working on a reinforced tank "to hold a baby Kraken". With some little adjustments, the two of them were able to make it work as a tank to hold the corpse, although they will not have direct access to it unless they break it open.
Calloway went to The Lodge, where they hung out with Sulphier, Henrietta, and Furn. They also investigated the cellar, where Sulphier declared he would not return due to a foul scent and his suspicions that he might have seen something moving down there. Calloway wasn't able to pinpoint the problem, but did notice a draft coming from one corner of the cellar.
Leaf, after a conversation with Sultana that earned him the fabulous compliment of being "an adequate fighter" as well as advice, spent his night working with his baby griffin Padme and training.
The following day the group spent helping Ting set up the temple. (10/22)
The day after that the group went back to the Temple and found SNTR-1's book. (10/23)
The following day ("Thursday", 10/24), the group got a message from the Baron, who needed their assistance moving Jaysennia Amanita out of his home. She would only allow the Coast Guard to assist her. Jaysennia told them she had started to feel weird staying there; the family dynamic was stressful, the Baron obviously tired of her company, and strange things kept happening. She would find objects missing, or small changes in her manuscript. Sometimes it would just be words edited to say something else, but sometimes there would be entire lines that she had no memory of writing. Often the additions would be somewhat sassy and editorial, not at all the kind of writing she typically does. She took care not to say she suspected the Baron of anything untoward, but she found it increasing strange that her brother disappeared the way he did. There were very few people in town at that point, mainly the Baron, Henrietta, and Chelu-kaan. She found he disappeared suddenly and that none of his work had been brought to fruition. He normally was very passionate about his work, and she didn't understand why he would have left if he did so willingly.
The group brought her to The Lodge, where she set up in one of the (mostly finished) new rooms on the ground floor.

    TLDR:

The group isolates the infected body and performs tasks at the Universalist Temple of Oghma in exchange for information. A debrief of the mission introduces Furn, who is contracted to write zines about the Coast Guard.
