Session 06: Ix or Nix
General Summary
After defeating the creatures, the Coast Guard spoke to Ixul’ichl’d, more easily named Ix. After giving him secrets to get information from him, they learned he was there to observe the mushroom situation. He said it was a plague which came into Port Shimmerly from the Astral Sea because the veil between planes is thin here for some reason. He had no interest in preservation of life. He wouldn't say who sent him, but said he was sent by someone who are looking for ways to stop the plague, although not necessarily on the Material Plane.
They also discovered that the grey spores they had seen earlier created an empathic bond between creatures in contact with them, granting them advantage on checks made to influence or understand each other.
Knowing that the fungus had something to do with a plague, the group isolated the corpse of who they're pretty sure is Knox inside SNTR-1's chest, caused a cave-in blocking the entrance to the infested cave, and headed out. Caydense led the group out through a shorter, easier exit that ended on Castle Iverfort property. Trying to figure out how to isolate the corpse but also study it, and perhaps try to prevent the infestation from worsening, they headed to The Universalist Temple where they met Ting. She set to work looking through books to find an answer.
TLDR:
The party talks to an extraplanar creature, who tells them in cryptic terms about a fungal plague from the Astral Sea. They take an infected corpse out of the caverns for isolation and study.
