Session 05: A Cave of Love & Mushrooms
General Summary
Calloway had an odd moment with Sultana on their way out of Lient'roc.
The gang walked through all their rooms at the Coast Guard Mansion.
They started the first mission. Rexrode & Tulin, dock workers employed by the City Guard, witnessed their friend, Knox Fontineaux, get grabbed by something and dragged into the caves behind the waterfall by something with big, leathery wings. With some cajoling (and a well-placed Charm Person from Kopala), Rexrode admitted they were deeper in the cave at an illegal brothel, and that's where Knox was taken from. Caydense accompanied them so they wouldn't get lost deep in the cave system. They found gold and a ledger written in Primordial at the brothel. Rexrode described the bouncer/enforcer as an intimidating Triton named Kyrion, who had tattoos covering his body. Kopala knew that was a sign that Kyrion had been expelled from Triton society.
The group followed a trail of blood into the caves. They found a strange bone covered in runic Celestial carvings (veil, sea, voyage/journey OR beacon (could be either), see/eye, time OR spine (could be either)), and passed stalks of exploded mushooms like the one Kopala saw in the boat on their opening mission. The more perceptive noted that there were booted footprints, drag marks, and evidence of large wings beating in the tunnels.
Eventually they saw a glowing ahead. The 8ft ceiling was “carpeted” with a network of winding green filamentous structures about the thickness of a pinkie finger, constantly crisscrossing over itself. Hanging from this structure were smaller, greyish filaments, each about 2 inches long, terminating in spherical nodules the size of a cherry pit. It was these that are producing the light. The remains of mushroom stalks seemed to be trapped inside the slime, some of the filaments coming directly from the stalks. As they approached, the nodules swayed gently as a gentle rain of slow-moving particles fell from the closest bunch of nodules and drift to the ground.
The group used their cloaks and shields to prevent the spores from touching them, and approached a cavern from which they heard skittering noises.
Inside the cavern they found a corpse, two crawling insectiod creatures infected with fungus, a slime mold-corpse hyrbid with tentacles, and a silently observing gargoyle-like creature. The group dispatched the crawlers and the corpse, which each exploded a puff of spores when they expired (Kopala was dusted by the last). Leaf jumped onto the ledge to confront the gargoyle thing, and that is where session ended.

TLDR:
The Coast Guard starts their first "real" mission, investigating a dock worker who disappeared into the caverns below Port Shimmerly. They find evidence of an illegal brothel & a bunch of mushrooms.Bookkeeping
