Universalist Temple
Run by Ting
Temple grounds
- Main building is primarily dedicated to Oghma, and contains copies of every holy text Ting can collect
- Outside, a large amphitheater-style covered outdoor worship space contains enclaves dedicated to the major gods
- “Little Free Library” – supplicants can request books, the priest can order them and they arrive in a small glass-covered bookshelf that is connected via pocket dimension to The Library of All Knowledge… or so Ting claims
Relationships
- The Universal Temple was erected because the community requested a non-Chelu-kaan place of worship in town
- Community members (and especially some specific nobles) donated funds to build the temple and hire the priest, so she has a good relationship with the community at large
- The Baron is a bit uncomfortable with religion but ultimately is trying to make the most appealing city possible and so was convinced… especially when the priest promised direct access to a divine domain of knowledge
- Chauntea (NG, Goddess of Agriculture) (Included on first floor due to the industry of the area)
- Correllon (CG, God(dess) of Elves) (Included as a misguided attempt to connect with the locals)
- Tempus (N, God of War) (Included on first floor due to the abundance of soldiers in PS)
- Tymora (CG, Goddess of Fortune)
- Tyr (LG, God of Law & Justice) - (Oghma is excluded because her temple is the schoolhouse)
- Azuth (LN, God of Wizards, servant of Mystra)
- Eldath (NG, Goddess of Peace & Nature)
- Ilmater (LG, God of Endurance & Sacrifice)
- Selune (CG, Goddess of the Moon & Navigation)
- Torm (LG, God of Law & Righteousness)
- Umberlee (CE, Goddess of the Sea)
- Some unclaimed rooms on third floor
- Talos (CE, God of Storms & Destruction)
Description
A small building reminiscent of a schoolhouse serves as the entrance to the amphitheater-like Universal Temple. A symbol of a blank scroll is emblazoned on the doorframe. Beyond, you see a rising circular structure of hallways, large bay windows sparkling in the light and revealing rows of doors surrounded by bookshelves and decorated with the symbols of various deities. The building contains four levels. The top layer of the building is open to the air.As you approach, you hear what sounds like a string quartet playing impeccable music.
Inside the schoolhouse temple, bookshelves line every vertical surface that isn’t otherwise used. The shelves are about half stocked, as it seems like someone is in the process of filling them. Displayed prominently in the center of the room, a glass cabinet, meticulously clean and conspicuously empty, gleams in light of many piter lamps. It’s made entirely of angular sections of stained glass held together by bands of silver which intersect with each other to form a massive set of sigils. Lights are arranged around the cabinet in a way that sends bands of color across the room. This is The Lens of Oghma, which can supply the perfect book to a worthy supplicant at their time of need… at least according to Ting.
The only person in the one-room building appears to be a Kenku wearing a simple but elegant set of gray robes and half-moon glasses clamped onto her beak. She is picking books out of boxes and placing them on the shelves with careful precision. It is from her that this instrumental music is springing, and you can see the muscles in her neck straining with the effort of producing it.
