Exand Districts

New Exand

"All the busy bees at work, going about their lives without any excitement. Poor bastards."
New Exand is the main district for office workers; a large amount of area is owned by Galactic Connections Office (GCO). The area was built on top of Old Exand following Almost Doomsday and unfortunately, a lot of history was destroyed during this process including the original exploration camp site. Very little of the original infrastructure of Old Exand remains, but several buildings such as The Porcelian Tower.

Downtown

"I'm thinking about trying the new Journic place, wanna go?"
Outside New Exand is the downtown area where the vast majority of commercial businesses operate, such as resturaunts and shops. Exand used to be home to very unique shops, including several local clothing lines being exported across the galaxy, but the economic dispariety following the exodus has yet to recover. Many believed Exand was going to be the New New New York but the city will likely never return to such levels.

Forgotten Sectors

"We'll be hunkering down here until the heat dies down."
When Exand was temporarily abandoned, many residential buildings were looted or destroyed, which left large sections of outer Old Exand in ruins. Once Almost Doomsday ended, many of the buildings were left in their state as landowners often didn't have the money to rebuild and many previous residents decided against returning. Now, there are large old city districts almost completely abandoned, although there are known criminal elements that use these areas for their operations.

A New Frontier

Exand started similar to many Galactic Era cities; as a base camp for exploring a potentially habitable planet. Relm's thick cloud layer made orbital scouting difficult and so much of the planet would require probes to explore near ground level, which was easier done with a planet-side base of operations. In late 2282, the mission began and a large structure was dropped along with a small team.

Almost Doomsdays

On April 1 2287, Exand was facing imminent destruction. An asteroid collision with The Wanderer sent a rock over four kilometers wide directly towards Relm, threatening to destroy anything on the planet; except it didn't. The projected trajectory was the result of a programming error, specifically for calculating velocities of objects with large mass. The math was double checked outside the program and found to be aggregiously wrong, with the asteroid never coming closer than 200 kilometers to Relm, but an over-zealous radar technician made a public alert before the double-check giving Relmens 13 hours to evacuate.

Utter Chaos

Despite government efforts to convince the populace there was no real danger, people were preparing for the worst. Parents collected their children from school, businessmen abandoned their offices, ships were fueling up and preparing to take as many people off world as possible. Those resigned to their fate began looting or worse and riots were rampant throughout the city. People fought for seats on ships, buildings were destroyed, all the while officials sat hopeless knowing the truth. As the last hour before the prophesized impact passed, people realized the truth. As the ships returned to the half burned out city, many people were left without homes and jobs and decided it was better to just move on.
