Scoragh's Descent

Disaster / Destruction

0 BK; 586 btT

Scoragh's descent is the name of an extremely sudden desertification event that ravaged the eastern continent midland and destroyed the Daardai Empire, burying most of its cities in the sand together with their draconic inhabitants.   The outcome of this event was the complete destruction of most of the Daardai empire, especially the more inland part where most dragonborn were located. After this event, the once warm but fertile land where the draconic empire extended turned to sand, becoming the desert now knows as Scoraght’s Garden.

The causes of Scoragh’s descent vary significantly depending on the culture and tradition of who is telling the tale. People from western regions, hostile to the Khalimedi Empire, argue that the arrival of eastern humans in the Daardai Empire somehow triggered this calamity. Those extremely opposing the human empire even state that Khalimedi people intentionally started this event to get rid of the Dragonborn.   Scholars of the Plethora instead believe that the cause of this event lies in the arcane nature and scientific focus of the draconic empire, as opposed to their own religion-centric society. They preach that the detachment of the Daardaian society from their original religion angered the gods, that burned down the land and its inhabitants as a punishment.   Other politically independent scholars believe that dragonborn scientists experimented too much on magic and that the catastrophe was caused by a failure of one of these experiments.   Nonetheless, those that do not study history or are not actively researching it do not know much about this event, and in the western continent the common folk considers the dragonborn race and their original empire more a legend than something that actually happened.
