Plethora

The official organized religion of the Khalimedi Empire, the Plethora acts as both a religious organization and an integral part of Khalimedi government.
Religion wise, the Plethora worships the widely known main pantheon, with Daardeonkar, the older sibling, acting wisely and Daaraxioi, the younger, acting out of spite. Contrary to their western counterpart, in Khalimed the official religion does not assign genders to the two original deities.

Structure

The highest rank in the Plethora is the Shaly'ah, which is also a member of the Sand Council

Ethics

The Plethora has different views on the schools of magic compared to most other cultures.

On Divination

The Plethora considers divination a prerogative of divine magic. Because of this, clerics with great divination powers and a strong connection to their deity are held in high regard by this church, and can often climb the ranks of the organization quicker than others. On the other hand, mages and sorcerers that show divination abilities but no direct connection to the divine are actively hunted by the church, making arcane divination de facto illegal in the Khalimedi Empire. An example of this hatred for arcane divination is the persecution of Kalashtar communities that has been and is still ongoing in the northern part of the eastern continent. Because of their innate divination powers, Kalashtar people have been targeted by both the Plethora and Khalimed, with villages being burnt to the ground and the most influential members of the ravaged communities being publicly executed. Some say that the individuals with the strongest divination abilities have been taken by the Plethora and brought back to the Khalimedi Empire, but no official statement exists on this.

On Necromancy

An important distinction needs to be made between two different branches of this school of magic when it comes to social acceptance in the Khalimedi Empire: necromancy as the raising of bodies who don't possess thoughts or consciousness and necromancy as the resurrection of persons as a whole. I will be referring to the former as "Raising the dead" and to the latter as "Resurrection".

Raising the dead

Unlike their western counterpart, humans of the Khalimedi Empire do not necessarily reject necromancy. Officially, the Plethora does not prohibit necromancy but does not actively support it either. In ancient times, necromancy as magic to raise the dead was frequently used on slaves or as the most terrible punishment reserved for the worst of criminals, but was not practiced on free people of any type, as death is seen as a relief in eastern cultures. With the modernization of the empire and the rising contacts with the western continent, both these practices and slavery have become less common, but neither is technically illegal. Raising the dead in areas close to the Anklife channel, where the empire is at its most modern and several cultures mix, will create some confusion and might bring unspoken disapproval even among khalimedi people. People practicing this type of necromancy in the more inland and rural areas will instead be met at most with a puzzled look and, in the most isolated desert communities, slavery and necromancy are still common practices.

Resurrection

Similarly to divination, the practice of necromancy as the power to bring back from the dead both the body and soul of an individual is a privilege of clerics or people otherwise linked to divine magic. Resurrection and necromantic magic aimed at extending someone's life beyond the humanly possible are used frequently by the highest members of the Plethora, and the persecution to those using the arcane to acquire these abilities is even heavier than it is for divination. Officially, the Plethora accepts people that reach these level of magic knowledge through the divine, but in reality this church forces people with these skills to become part of the Plethora itself, and some say that those that refuse often disappear.
