Originally founded in 800 HE, the Cassadean Church at first served primarily as a way for other humans and mages to follow in the footsteps of their goddess Cassadea. Helping and protecting the poor, ensuring that order and justice were kept, the duties of the Church were many and it did not take long before it began to act as a political organisation. Cities and later entire kingdoms fell under their sway and when their goddess disappeared in 941 HE, the Church stood as one of two great organisations ready to fill the ensuing power vacuum. It foughts its rivals, the Arcane Hierarchy and its political arm the Gadarian Dominion, for centuries before eventually being fully defeated nearly 500 years later. Despite the purge that followed, the Church manage to survive as an underground cult. It subsequently split in two, one faction wishing to continue on with the old ways while another sought reform. The former branch was annihilated by the Hierarchy rather quickly while the later reemerged over a thousand years after the purge. Since then it has been a organisation wholly dedicated to justice and care for the poor, providing food, shelter and medical services to those in need. Additionally, it supplies juidicial services, giving lawyers to those that cannot afford them or even serving as the court of law in far off provincial towns. As such the Church is a much more pleasant sight nowadays. The Hierarchy maintains a close look on them, however, to ensure that it will never again return to the dark ways of its original incarnation.
