Srisu

Estimated to be 2,400 years old, possibly older, and spans an estimated 2,200 acres of woodlands in and around the Flujsa Caverns. This sentient fungus is believed to touch every corner of the forest. Every night, an eerie yellow glow permeates its actual domain. Those who dare tread on its territory are never seen again.

Physical Description

Body Features

A sentient colony of fungi that have a stem, a cap, and gills on the underside of the cap. These gills produce spores that help the fungus spread across the ground. The fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of the fungus, typically produced above ground, on soil, or on its food source is a red capped toadstool with white spots. Most of the fungus is underground and in decaying wood or dying tree roots in the form of white threads combined with black lace-like cords that bridge separated colonized woods.

Special abilities

The spores are mind-altering when inhaled, and toxic in large doses. Their bioluminescence adds an eerie glow to the night. The stem has healing capabilities when ingested, it can reduce fever and numb pain. When fermented and made into a beer-like drink, the cap can induce a Dream state. While in this dream the dreamer can commune with the fungus.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Just wishing to be left alone to feed and flourish, it has a tendency to release spores when other sentient life approaches. These spores make the intruder drowsy and if they don't manage to leave, they'll fall asleep and never awaken. Their body will be food to Srisu, and fuel its expansion forward.

Social

Family Ties

Spores are produced on the gills and fall in a fine rain of powder from under the caps. A powdery impression reflecting the shape of the gills is formed. The color of the powdery print, called a spore print, is yellow. They seemingly appear overnight, growing and expanding rapidly, in newly colonized areas. It is said that every mushroom in the forest is a part of Srisu, but it's more likely that only the white spotted red caps are.
