Thracius Habitus

Elector Lord Thracius Habitus, Of Imbar

"I'm old enough to have known people who spoke with Til-Yaltur, young man, the history of the Empire is in the bones of my family. I've lived through war, plague and have no time to waste with nice words and small talk. Tell me what you've come to say, and don't spare my feelings."
The Habitus family of Imbar are unusual in two respects. The first is that as many of the Elector Lords from the House have been female as male, and second is that they are an exceedingly long-lived family, with most of their members, if not struck down by injury, live into their nineties.     Thracius is no exception to the latter, at 87 years old, he is the oldest currently living Elector Lord and is as hale as a man twenty years younger. His three children are all well into their sixties, and he has grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Despite this, he has reigned for only 13 years, the longevity of his family creating older, shorter reigning lords.

Personal history

Thracius' route to the lordship was neither straight forwards, nor expected. He was born in 1819, during the reign of his great-grandfather, Phanes, who had become Elector Lord at only age one, after the unexpected death of his 28 year old father in a shipwreck. After an uneventful regency, Phanes reigned for ninety-one years, a feat unsurpassed in the Empire, before or since. He was succeeded by his daughter, Media, who reigned for 31 years, until she died aged ninety five. Media was followed by her daughter, Nigella, who reigned for sixty-one years until her death, aged ninety-five also.   Nigella was childless, despite many attempts by her and her husband, but her sister, Concordia aged ninety-three had four. Concordia died only three months after her sister, leaving her seventy-four year old son, Adolphus, to take up the lordship. Like his aunt, Adolphus had no children through no choice of his own, and when he died only five years into his reign, his brother Thracius was Elector Lord.   Thracius has been in the position now for thirteen years, content that his lineage is secure and that Imbar will benefit, as always, from a long-lived family in control.
