It was a fateful day. Willa Warms' Whimsical Circus paraded into Emerald, putting on a brave face and performing for the crowds on Main Boulevard. From the docks, Adeline and Aurum arrived on their respective ships, entering into a city larger than they are used to that is filled to the brim with people.

It Begins

A circus, Willa Warms' Whimsical Circus, paraded into Emerald. The dancers beguiled onlookers as they paraded through the city. One of those dancers was Ryz. At the Cosmolimani, a ship arrived from Dreisturme with delegations from The Wyldlands and Amana. From that ship stepped a dragonborn knight named Aurum. At the same time, Golden Harpy moored at the Triklisma. The ragtag crew disembarked. From there, the captain gave the young tiefling Adeline an idea of where to start to enjoy the festivities and find a new life, and she was on her way. They all happen upon Main Boulevard, one of the hubs of festivities. While performing there, one of the noble houses on the boulevard is engulfed in flames. Acting quickly, the trio move to action, leading others nearby to act in turn. Aurum and Ryz, along with a few other performers, rush into the home while Adeline decided to make her way to the rear of the house. Inside, Aurum hears the call for help upstairs, not really seeing anyone on the first floor. Ryz tells their troupe members to search the first floor for any survivors and heads up to the second floor as well. The troupe find an unconscious elf on the first floor and pull him to safety. Behind the house, Adeline sees a figure on the roof of a house across the street disappear over the crest of the roof and decides to give chase. On the second floor, where the smoke is heavy, Aurum and Ryz push through, trying to find the person who called for help. They hear faint coughing down the hall that seems to be getting weaker and weaker. As they reach the door where they hear the coughing coming from they see a man weakly trying to gather books and scrolls under him to protect from the fire. He seems to be rapidly losing consciousness. Aurum picks up the man and begins carrying him out of the house while Ryz grabs the scrolls and books the man was trying to gather and follows them out. Chasing after the mysterious figure, Adeline manages to keep up with the mysterious figure. After chasing him through several alleys, he seems to vanish around a corner. Adeline is able to determine that he hid away inside the service entrance of a shop. As she approaches, she hears him panting and worrying. She enters, frieghtening him. With little intimidation, she is able to determine that he is a Candela Guild assassin and where their headquarters are. She leaves him, a sobbing mess, to return to where the fire is, taking his bow with her. As she begins to leave, her tail whips at the assassin with a dagger, narrowly missing him. She turns to see what the wimper was to see him in a guarded pose, thinks nothing of it, and leaves. Once she's out the door, but not out of earshot, she hears him crumple to the floor, crying. Back at the noble house, the fire brigade has arrived to douse the flames as well as a town guard and one of The Black Lords. Irritated, the Black Lord confirms with the guard that his duty to respond has been fulfilled and leaves. One of the two survivors regains consciousness temporarily, sees the scrolls and books, and thanks them.

Investigation

Aurum and Ryz helped get the survivors to an inn to rest. While there, Carlisle Crest regained consciousness, introducing himself and his servant Barnaby Imigin. He provided Ryz with 1 platinum, which they took and left, and provided Aurum with information about why he may have been targeted and where he can find specialists for handling diseases. Aurum decided to head back to the burned down house and Ryz took Hana to enjoy more festivities. When Aurum arrived, he asked the guard for more information, but wasn't able to get much. Looking at the debris, he noticed an arrowhead imbedded in some stone. He took it to observe later. Adeline returned to the burned down house as well. There, Aurum and Adeline compared notes. As they did so, Ryz and Hana were out shopping, enjoying food, and seeing the sights. Then Ryz's duck got very hungry. Hana helped her rush down to the docks to let the duck swim. As they ran, Aurum and Adeline caught a glimpse of them. When everything settled down, the team met up. Upon telling Ryz that Carter House is where their hideout is, they decided to show them where that is. While scoping the place out, Ryz and Hana go to a nearby bar to drink and enjoy the view. Aurum and Adeline joined them after doing a little more recon. At the bar, they enjoyed some drinks and decided to go in and see if they can discover the hideout. Carter House famously does not restrict entry, having bouncers as almost more of a formality. They four enter end pick out a good spot to watch for Candela Assassins. Eventually, a familiar figure enters a doorway in the hall. The team go to follow, discovering a camoflauged door leading to a set of stairs. The team readied themselves and descended.

In the Hideout

At the bottom of the stairs they came to a set of double doors. They listened for a moment, hearing conversations on the other side. Adeline stealthed her way in while the others waited. As she entered, she momentarily noticed someone to her left. Before she could do anything else, she felt the tide rise inside her as her tail took a dagger and stabbed the figure to death. She caught the body and let it fall stealthily. With one less opponent now, she was able to make out 10 figures in the hideout. There was a lot of candles and wood. After a little bit of recon, Ryz and Hana decided to enter. The chaos and confusion was on their side. Ryz, Hana, and Aurum managed to confuse the Candelas long enough to get a little information out of them, but nothing conclusive. Adeline laid in wait, but the tide rose more and a dagger was thrown, killing another member. Their welcome was overstayed. As the Candelas became fed up, and eventually noticed their dead associates, they started to fight. In the back, the new guy that Adeline intimidated tried to find a place to hide. Ryz and Hana left once they felt the chance to talk was done. Aurum and Adeline stood to stop the Candelas. Panicking, the Candela in the back stumbled, knocking over a candelabra. With fire spreading, everyone tried to fight and run. Aurum and Adeline held the line at the door. They cut down the Candelas that tried to pass them, and managed to convince the scared Candela to come with them. They left, leaving dead bodies and a dagger behind. They watched Carter House from a distance, curious if it would collapse. It seems the owners of Carter House knew enough to insulate their building from fire, knowing who their insidious tennants were. Aurum, Adeline, and Josh, as they found out, return to an Inn to rest for the night, and Ryz and Hana found their own place to rest. What a day.
