Blessings

Remembrance and Augury

Blessings is a two day holiday - it takes place on the last day of the calendar year and the first day of the following year. The holiday has two simultaneous, contradicting meanings to people: It marks a chance to try again and begin anew, but is also a major milestone in the passing of time and lets all enjoy the continuation of all things. It is a fairly ubiquitous holiday with each culture has different traditions, but for the nations on Espiria and West Ruanteia it is a day for great celebrations.

Two Day Holiday

The first day is a day of remembrance. It is used by families to reflect mainly on the year that passed, but also their time together. For people who are grieving the loss of a loved one it is also a time to take a break from life and give added time to grieve. Memorials are frequent on this day, and some cultures have shared memorials where people can grieve together. It is also a day to reflect on other failed efforts of the year and assess how to turn those moments into lessons for the new year.

The second day is a celebration of the new: new business, new friends, new families, new adventures, and more. It is a day of opportunity and ambition. Many use the day to start the year off with positive auguries. While large celebrations are common, the most famous celebration is held in the city of Emerald on Espiria.
