Floran

Civilization and Culture

History

Florans emerged in the Feywild during a period of intense magical convergence. In areas where the wild magic of the realm intertwined deeply with the natural world, plants began to develop sentience and humanoid forms. This process was likely guided by nature deities or powerful fey entities who sought to create guardians for the Feywild's lush landscapes.   The first Florans were born from a variety of plant species, resulting in a diverse range of appearances and abilities. Some resembled graceful trees with bark-like skin, others delicate flowers with vibrant, petal-like hair, and still others hardy vines or fungi with unique textures and colors.   In their early days, Florans were deeply rooted to their birth locations, unable to move far from the sites of their creation. As they evolved and adapted to the Feywild's magic, they gradually gained mobility, though many still felt a strong connection to their original habitats.   Floran society developed around the concept of symbiosis and community. They formed groves and gardens where different types of Florans lived together, each contributing their unique abilities to the group's survival and prosperity. These communities often became nexus points of natural energy in the Feywild, attracting other fey creatures and shaping the landscape around them.   As beings literally born of the Feywild's magic, Florans possess an innate understanding of the realm's ebb and flow. They developed abilities to manipulate plants, communicate with other flora, and even tap into ley lines of natural energy. Some Florans became powerful druids and nature mages, while others focused on honing their natural defenses and healing abilities.   The relationship between Florans and other Feywild races was generally harmonious, with many seeing the plant people as embodiments of the realm's natural beauty and magic. However, conflicts sometimes arose with more destructive or industrious races who saw the Feywild's plantlife as a resource to be exploited.   When portals to the material plane were discovered, some adventurous Florans chose to explore this new world. Their experiences varied greatly – in lush, forested areas they were often welcomed as emissaries of nature, while in more developed regions they faced curiosity, misunderstanding, or even hostility.   In the material plane, Florans often took on roles as guardians of natural places, advisors to druids and rangers, or ambassadors seeking to promote harmony between civilization and nature. Their unique perspective and abilities made them valuable allies in efforts to heal blighted lands or combat unnatural threats to the environment.
