Dragontides First King

Summary

The myth and legend surrounding Dragontides first king, a man who united the dispersed groups of Humans under him, who established a border with the Dwarves, and brought every Human under one family.   The story goes that after the Hillara nobles were ascended to Godhood, the humans left behind were seperate, and after the burning of Yggdrasil in a war between the Dwarves and Humans, the Gods turned away from ruling on the material plane, moving to their own celestial plane. In this wake and lack of leadership the Human communities seperated, with infighting and mistrust between regions and towns.   The first king, was a man named Orinn, and before he was king, he was a farmer. Orinn worked tirelessly to improve his village, eventually training as a warrior to defend his home against raiders, wild animals, and powerful creatures like Dinosaurs, Nightmares and Dragons. Overtime his village saw him as a leader and united underhim, and Orinn knew his destiny. He went from town to town, defending them, inspiring them into fighting for their homes, and be welcomed into his protection.    Orinn found his way to Pafth, the ancient city of the Vanir, and set to work fortifying it. He built his army, his defences and named the city the Citadel, a bastion of defence against those who would hurt his people. In the city's palace, sat a chair, inwhich the Vanir leader Freyja sat and goverened her people, and embeded into this chair was a sword. The sword was a beautiful, steel and golden alloy the Hillara nobles were reknown for weilding, but any attempts to remove the sword resulted in those who touched it withering and dying, but the lands becoming more fertile. An ancient legend formed around this sword, that Freyja was so powerful and rightous in her leadership that the sword respected her enough to not wither her, instead being her instrument of leadership. And that anyone who could weild the sword was said to be destined as the next leader of Humans.   Orinn took hold of the sword, falling to his knees as the blade tried to wither him away, only for him to pull the sword free, raising it above his head and delcaring himself King of Dragontide. Soon the outlying human villages bowed to his leadership, borders were established along the mountains north of the hold, and Dragontide was born. The sword was called Exilla, and was sentient, talking to Orinn, aiding him in leading Dragontide.   Upon his death Exilla was given to his heir, and was passed down through the generations of Dragontide royalty. It was lost during the War against the Dark Wing Empire, and is said that Empress Rosalind had the weapon cast into the ocean to be forgotten. It became a new legend, that whoever reclaims the weapon would have the right to ask anything of the monarch of Dragontide.

Variations & Mutation

Some variations of the story says that the sword would wither Orinn and increase the fertility of the land, but that he was so powerful the withering didn't affect him.    Some variations of the recent legend state that whoever finds Exilla has the right to rule Dragontide, though this is unsubstantiated as rumor, and that the Rularian council and Dragontide nobility moved away from this tradition after the Dark Wing Empire in order to establish new order, legacy and tradtions in the wake of Rosalind destroying so many during her reign.
