Government
Palerock has been under martial law since it was founded. Everything goes towards the war effort.

Defences
The Bastion of Palerock is called so for a reason. It is heavily fortified with multiple outer walls manned nonstop by watchful dwarves. Outside the outer walls, which are 40 feet thick and 60 feet tall are numerous outer perimeters which serve and the first line of defense as well as the closest thing to Palerock's borders.
Industry & Trade
Out of necessity more than a desire to trade, the dwarves of Palerock trade with most strut-cities, the primary one being Cogwall. They trade ore, weapons, and lumber in exchange for food, mercenaries, and magical knowledge.
Architecture
Low-lying stone structures are the dominant style of housing in Palerock, and are utilitarian and sparsely decorated, viewed as little more than a place of rest. In deed, many duergar prefer communal living in large bunkhouses even when given the option to possess a home. However, many ambitious duergar seeking more slabs acquire homes and use them as makeshift laboratories, storefronts, or workshops. The two exceptions to this are the Runekeeper's Tower and the Cogwall Embassy, the two tallest structures in Palerock.
Geography
The southernmost city of Stonebones Loch, Palerock is the closest to the Riftlands.
The city is built around the local strut, which resides on the top of a cliff 800 ft above the sea below. A complex network of tunnels dot the cliffside below the city, containing homes, mines, and many fallback points and bunkers for the cities defense from threats by land or sea.
To the west are the Riftlands, and unlike their sister city Cogwall, Palerock does not have substantial natural boundaries to protect them from lesser creatures born of the rift.
Natural Resources
One of Palerock's greatest banes and boons is the Rootwood, which makes up a large part of Palerock's northern territory within the defensive perimeter. Made up of massive interwoven roots from some massive surface flora, the roots are one of the rare sources of lumber in the Loch, and have allowed the duergar to make a sizable profit building ships and selling lumber to more desperate neighbors.
