The Plague of Rattus
The Plague of Rattus was an ancient plague that caused a massive divide in the rich and poor classes of southern Countillan then ruled by the Tusken Kingdom. Rats had swarmed the cities and with them spread the plague with the only medical cure being greater restoration, only a luxury the wealthiest of citizens could afford.
This plague was due to the influx of rats and the disease they carried as the Rat King attempted to gain followers. The result of the plague led to the Rat King being disliked and seen as a bad omen for a long time to come until he fell into obscurity after the Search of Power.
During this 16-year period, many of the poorer citizens were cast out due to the assumption of disease, with some of the especially divided cities building underground networks for the poor citizens to live in, so that their illness didn't see the light of day. In these networks, the rich profited as one of the only stable jobs the poorer class could hold would be in the mines, owned by the wealthy.
These nobles despised the idea of illness and killed every rat they could get their hands on, many ending up being chased into the very tunnels that the sick were forced into.
While many of these tunnels have collapsed many still exist under the city-state of Notris.
