Personal history
A few months after turning 9 (August 1610) Damian and his mother were attacked by a group of 3 vampires. They sought out the Dumonte family after Laurence Dumonte had decimated their clan. They beat Damian and his mother Theresia until they were nearly unconcious and severely cut and bruised. Intent on keeping them alive and making them suffer. Laurence arrived in time to save his family, attacking and subduing the 3 vampires. Seeing his family so badly bruised and wounded Laurence gave into his anger and rather than killing the leader of the 3 vampires he began torturing him. stabbing him repeatedly and sending lightning manus coursing through the vampires body. Damian was horrified seeing his father act so heartless and cruel. Unable to properly speak and crying through his swollen eyes he pleaded with his father to stop. His father looked almost demonic to him, with a sickly aura radiating from his body, not unlike the aura the vampires had. While his father was so focused on the vampire under his blade he failed to notice one of the others get back up and was stabbed through his chest. In a fit of rage and retaliation he stabbed and killed both of the remaining vampires. Realizing the error of his ways he crawled over to his beaten family and begged forgiveness for giving in to his anger rather than finishing them off when he had the chance. He told Damian to not make the same mistakes he made and to always protect his mother. Damian agreed with tears pouring down his cheeks as his father died in front of him.
3 months after this event, Damian's mother Theresia has not handled the loss of her husband well at all. She has become significantly more recluse, as has Damian. Theresia often stares up at the moon all night instead of sleeping pleading for her dead husbands return. One night on Damian awoke from a horrible nightmare in his bed. He sensed a similar sickly aura emanating from the dark corner of his room. An evil presence. He began to panic unable to breathe when suddenly he heard the soothing voice of his mother, she reached out and gently stroked his cheek and in an instant he felt completely relaxed and the terrifying presence had vanished. He gently held his mother's hand as she puled his hand towards her. Damian calmly let her do so as he began to fall back asleep. Suddenly a sharp pain shot through his body and the horrid presence returned. His eyes darting open he saw the blade of a knife sticking through his palm, a bowl underneath it collecting the blood seeping from his hand, and a sickly gray colored hand, with sharp nails and skinny fingers grasping the handle of the blade. Damian recoiled in pain pulling his hand back. Theresia scolded him for "not sharing" his blood, saying his father will punish him. Damian retorted that "Dad's dead!" All she replied was "Not for long!" before standing up and walking out of the room. Terrified Damian wrapped and bandaged his wounded hand and walked out into the hallway, then the living room. The house was empty but he could see a large fire burning outside the back of the house. He walked to the door but before he could open he felt his heart drop the floor, his feet felt as if they were made of cinderblocks, his good tremored and every instinct in his brain told him not to look; to go back to bed. Regardless he opened the door and stepped outside.
In front of him was a great bonfire, his mother hunched over a pot and a skeleton in a pentagram! "Father!" Damian thought as he looked to past the garden to see his father's grave freshly dug up.
"Blood, I need more of your blood!" Said that creature that was once Theresia as she turned to face Damian. Her face now inhumanely long, extremely high and pronounced cheek bones jutted out from her face. Long fangs in her mouth, long black hair, and ice cold black eyes where her once beautiful blue eyes had been. She lunged at Damian when suddenly two knives flew past Damian from behind him. Stabbing into her as a cloaked figure darted past Damian and began to try to subdue her. A second cloaked man grabbed Damian and tried to pull him away from the scene. The men were Magi from Argos who had sensed the same dark aura Damian had. As the first one subdues Theresia she notices Damian watching and reverts back to her purely human appearance. She begins crying and begging for Damian to save her, to not let them hurt her. Damian struggles with all his might but the Magi holding him refuses to give in, he simply holds Damian and quietly utters, "Don't watch" as he begins to carry Damian away from the scene. The other Magi now holding the witch by hair shames her for torturing Damian, pretending to still be his innocent mother, She quietly laughs to herself as she regains her horrid true appearance and attempts to strike at the magi, before she can he decapitates her. From Damian's perspective all he sees is the silhouette of what was just his mother be decapitated by the magi with the roaring fire burning in the background.
After this word is sent to Damian's godfather, Leon. Leon as soon as hearing the news departs to Argos. Damian while waiting refuses to return to his home or speak to anyone. It takes nearly 2 months for Leon to reach Argos and when he does he is carrying a badly injured Lucas Gascoigne with him.
