Thialascian

Home to almost two million High Elves the country of Thilascian holds on one of the oldest bastions of civilizations next to The Exalted City of Rycca. Founded in the year 352 BCW the country has stayed out of most world conflicts only stepping in when they feel those they are closely allied with at the time. They currently hold close dealings with the Kingdom of Galorian and the Empire of Irialorn.

Demographics

Although the island is one hundred percent High Elven given the way the society has been formed each member has their place and can very fairly move up but can easily fall down. At the top of the societal tree are the families who make up the High Council; a group of seven who wield absolute power over the rest of the inhabitants and whose eldest child take the seat their parent leaves behind once passed away. Below council families are those who support them and enforce the laws put forth by the council, next one would find the families who work at a professional level. Working as craftsmen, clerics, bankers, teachers, and other jobs at that level; the High Elves consider those who work at that level to be one of the most important next to the council. Seeing them as the ones who produce their culture. Below them are the families at the service and military level, many here want to work within the military as it is the more honorable thing to do. Others may find themselves working in the houses of someone in one of the higher classes. At the bottom of society are the working class; the fishers, farmers, gravediggers, and other undesirable jobs. Not many are of a true underclass but the few who have fallen far enough tend to move off the island or move into the woods away from society.
Each level is made up of large extended families who are guided by their elder when it comes to large decisions in life such as marriage. Families at the top two tiers of society set up marriages between themselves and each other that are beneficial to both and produce a strong bond between the two chosen to be wed.

Government

Run by seven oligarchs who get their positions through inheriting them from a parent and once taking a the position on the High Council they take their place as the patriarch or matriarch of their family. The councilors meet in a closed chamber three times a week in the main chambers to go over matters within their own branches, during the meetings only the members of the Junior Council are allowed to attend. The Junior Council is made up of the young High Elves who are next in line for the High Council and are meant to listen and take notes on the goings on so they are fully prepared for their future job. Councilors may choose when they feel their heir may join them within the council chambers.
