Ioun

The Giver of Insight

Hidden away in her tower, Kerith-Ald, observing long-ago events, distant events, and events yet to come to pass; Ioun, the Lady of Knowledge aids her wife Erathis and children Conroy, and Sophia  in the pursuit of expanding and preserving knowledge. Though Pelor, Selûne, and Raven Queen hold power over the flow of time and fate, some have observed that Ioun seems to be the god of timing. She does not act often, but when she does, she is decisive and sure. She is depicted as a woman of olive skin with a statuesque form, Ioun is said to wear flowing robes that shift like the sands of time, her dark hair hanging in soft ringlets around her face. All who say they have seen her note one singular aspect of the goddess; her eyes, milky white and seemingly blind she still sees all. Some believe it is due to the third eye she keeps hidden.

Tenets of Faith

Ioun, the Lady of Knowledge key doctrine is that knowledge, science, and magic should be used to help the world and shared throughout. While Vecna teaches that knowledge should be kept to oneself, Ioun insists that knowledge is only useful if it used, and it must be used for the good of all. Though she is not directly a goddess of magic, her doctrine applies to magic as much as it does to the science of engineering. The appropriate use of magic is to help others, not harm them. While not explicitly pacifistic, the Lady places much more emphasis on healing than on warfare.
Clerics of Ioun wear vestments of white and blue, with gold trim. Her followers tend to be active in civic life, serving as judges advisors, planners, and teachers, sharing knowledge and calling upon their patron to show them what may come.
Temples to the Lady are always stately and pleasant to look at, standing as cathedrals to the sharing and dissemination of knowledge. When not within urban areas they tend to be fortified against potential attacks but still are pleasing to look at and always allow seekers to enter.
