Personal history

Mathias Gremshaw was born to Isobel and Zedik Gremshaw in Hub City in Hopefall. His mother, Isobel was a prestigious instructor at the academy, and his father, Zedik trained Utopian soldiers to fight alongside clone forces against The Reaper Imperium. Despite the ongoing war, young Mathias had a idilyic childhood. While still a child he met and befriended Deborah, Olgia and James Dixon .
As teenagers Mathias and Deborah fell in love. Once they reached adulthood they married, and Mathias began his military service. He and Deborah moved to the city of Leksade.
Alongside James he served with distinction and rose among the ranks. In the battle of Tiror, Mathias's heroic efforts turned the tide and drew the attention of Commander Greer, the supreme commander of Utopian forces. This served to further elevate Mathias's rank. He was deployed on the Southern front when news reached him of the introduction of Scour Airships. He worries for the safety of Deborah, but she assures him of her own security. She was right for a time. In an effort to keep his home safe he redoubles he efforts against the Reaper Imperium. His increased ferocity leads him to a series of victories.
In a turn of bitter fortune, Reaper Imperium assassins infiltrate Grand Commander Greer's command bunker and kill Greer. Mathias ascends to the rank of Grand Commander. Fearing Reaper Imperium assassins he orders James Dixon to evacuate Deborah to a dome city. Unbeknownst to Mathias, James had been subverted by The Reaper Imperium and instead he kills Deborah . This was intended to demoralize Mathias but instead it sends him into a rage.
Following the advice of General Matterson Mathias implements the Mattersen Doctrine which frees up forces to push against The Reaper Imperium. While increasing the offensive success of Utopian forces this leads to increasing civil unrest in Desemshia as they suffer devastation.
Eventually the unrest leads to supply chain shortages that force Mathias to withdraw back to the easily defended mountain passes around the eastern border of Desemshia . Suffering from a lack of fresh recruits Mathias finds himself leading primarily clone forces against both The Reaper Imperium, and local dissidents. For reasons unknown to any outside the domes, one day Mathias and his officers withdrew into the domes to never been seen again.
