Kassandir

Ideals & Flaws

In ancient myth Kassandir is said to have not been an Endless unleashed during Deus Gloria, but a mortal man. A mortal who struck down god after god clothed in nothing but a breastplate, helm, and with a spear and shield in his hands. With these crude tools he ran headfirst into the cosmic terror of a million unnamed deities devouring one another and defended his people with little more than his lionheart. It's impossible to know if this myth has any credence or even a kernal of truth, but it is the common belief, and the Endless are given power by fear, love, and awe.   Kassandir is called the first of kings. The warrior god. The champion of mortals. The god of war itself. The god of light. The god of bravery. He is whom all rulers strive to be. A man of purpose, valor, and unbreakable resolve. A god whom acts first and deliberates later. A god of action. The ultimate ideal of a soldier, a commander, and a sovereign. He is the most often worshipped by Elves, Humans, and by all soldiers who find themselves on a battlefield. In Iskandar he is considered the noble example of what the Knights of Elysium strive to represent as Paladins, and he is believed to be the mortal manifestation of the Grailfire.   Kassandir is the only "mortal" worshipped within the pantheon of the Endless and occupies a space in mortal hearts close to that of the arcane messiah, Rizion.   Whether he is mortal or Endless, Kassandir's power is undisputed. Those who doll themselves in his cloth and truly put their faith in his prowess are undefeatable enemies on the battlefield. Heroes of all eras have worn his colors and marched naked as he was in those days of valor and returned victorius and swathed in the blood of their enemies so many times that his divinity cannot be denied. Whether this is a simple trick of history and skill at arms or true godly intervention we may never know.

    Temples & Priesthoods

In the lands of Iskandar the temples of Kassandir are built in every major city. They are places of respite who paint their doors red so that in times of war or strife the common populace know where to turn for safety. During the War of the Broken Lance these sites were so well defended that even Azrael Errancar, the most powerful mage of the fifth age, did not dare to try and breach them. Outside of Iskandar, faith in Kassandir is mostly circumstantial. Kassandir is a god most often called upon in times of war. Thus his power wanes and waxes as tensions between the great realms begin to stress.   In times of peace his temples are often empty, and in times of war they are places of redoubt. His priesthood wear the colors of gold, red, and white in his honor. These places are not well decorated, but are filled with weapons, armor, and scrolls of magic that concern warfare and healing. They may at times also hold scriptoriums which preserve the laws of a nation, or techniques of martial combat.
