History

"To say that Sinakai is the older sibling, would be a drastic understatement. When I was born, brother was almost in his fourth-seven. By that time, he was close to becoming Champion of the village. It is quite a common story from ones close to my age. We were hatched into a war. I was hatched during the last years of a long self tribal war, that happened to other tribes as well at the time time.   Sini didn't get to experience what we now call an 'average' half-way seven, watching moving paintings or competing in shooting competitions for fun. No... Brother's were for survival. He defended our village from raids,   It was already apparent to our Elders back then that he had the makings of a leader. We all know how that turned out. Uniter King Sinakai, my brother...   I can only imagine, and still do picture the faces of the raiders that found their group leader dropped from a hundred Mauks away,   Many would think that he would tire of shooting after having done so, so long for reasons that were not for his own enjoyment. Well, from what I can tell, he plans on keeping that bow and rifle for as long as he's alive, and will be on the front lines should we ever have to fight another war, just as before to defend us all.   But, that's enough of me gushing over my brother. I came into the picture well after he was in his third-seven, and by then, he had been scarred by long years of combat. In a way, he is a living reminder of an era of our past.   It is understandable that some would not want to be reminded of the negatives, but others will see it as a beacon from Mornaig, that we no longer need to spend our early sevens fighting for scraps, or balacing between finding food for the day, and fending off raiders that managed a strategic number advantage to claim your Morns worth of work.   I don't believe I'm exaggerating or embellishing when I said that Sin deserves that title we gave him. He spent whatever time he wasn't hunting in excess for us, training us to be more accurate with our bows. Myself included.   I really appreciate what Sini did for us. I would say that he made sure that my half-sevens were full of meals and spent reassured by how long he had managed to survive.   When I reached my third-seven the war was appearing to be in its closing phases. This was mainly due to us being very efficient at wiping ourselves out. We were ruded to seventeen hundred, and from there, the rest of my sevens were so dramatically different that my younger self would find it impossible.   When I was close to touching the start of my fourth-seven, a visitor appeared in our village.   This was the beginning of what we would later start to call the Union Era.   This mysterious stranger was unlike one we had ever seen before.   He was far more covered than we chose to be, with our shoulders, being the primary target of protection, with our reproductive organs being the second most. Perhaps this paints a better picture of how dire our situation was up to that point. As long as we could continue producing children, so we wouldn't die off, it was fine if we lost a few limbs.   Our armour is made from Mauka plates, and cured through a process we've since shared with our partner kingdom.   This stranger, did not appear have a single piece of armour on them. Instead, they were wearing colourful fibers. The colour of these fibers struck us particularly because of their near seamless blending in with our forest background, and melding with the Mornlight sky.   They were only armed with a sword, that was presumed to be from their kingdom. At first they spoke in a language we didn't understand at all. Oh I forgot to mention... one thing that really startled us, they had no tail. So, from that point on, we just simple called all of their kind No-Tails. We assumed it was the language of the No-Tails but, then they spoke in our language.   What happened next startled us, but we saw no harm in it. The stranger wanted to challenge the Chmaption for the title. Surely it would be an easy manner for him to overcome. I mentioned earlier Sini was on the way to becoming Champion. He was at this time. So, of course I wanted to watch. It had been years since Sini had been Challenged, with his experience showing with no new scars being produced from combat wounds.   I will never forgot that Morn. When the stranger arrived it was about two-thirds Morn and when the combat bell sounded, I swore that they had disappeared. Their footwork was unlike anything I had seen, with the distance they covered in such a short period of time.   I saw Sini put on the defensive for the first time in my life. I am probably underestimating my skills because of comparing them to him, but, I have never been able to cause him to go on the defensive in our sparring matches. If I had been born a few sevens earlier, I imagine I would have more scars, with us likely using real blades instead of the dulled ones that only bruised.   Despite having the advantage, they backed off quickly and didn't move for any secondary strikes. I recognised the gesture, I suppose we could call it a sword greeting, seeing an opponent's blocking technique.   Sinakai took the opportunity to return the gesture, only to be surprised in such a manner that he dropped his guard, that is to say, his own guard was put up by his opponent, when he aimed his strike.   I was in shock. I'd spent at least one and a half sevens sparring with him to the point that I would consider myself somewhat close, and as you can understand, I am quite familiar with how he guards, even if I may not necessarily know how to break his experienced guard.   So to see this stranger use Sinakai's own guard against him was something that was burned into my mind to the memory I am speaking to you today, more than ten sevens later.   I'm not much of a story teller, so I apolgise if this seems... not very moving picture capable? I have been referring to the duelist as a stranger for some time now, but they are someone that I know well now. During the duel I had no idea such a thing would even be able to happen.   Sini will have more details for you, but, to my disbelief, and the entire tribe, he was defeated.   I could hardly believe my eyes, Brother, the Champion, had been defeated by a No-Tail from who knows where. Were all of the other No-Tails like that? If so, that was a terrifying thought...if they decided to invade us, what would that say of their bow skills compared to ours? I kept these doubts to myself though, at least for a while until I felt it acceptable to admit them, after they had long since been addressed.   We had no way of knowing that they knew what defeating a Champion would bring in terms of role in the tribe. That is, until they themselves revealed that they knew, and while chuckling with a huge smile on their face, they claimed they did it for one reason, that it would be easier to talk to the Elders that way.   They then revealed their identity to us, and then the Elders.   The stranger had come from a far way land, across the water, a kingdom, and, to our initial disbelief, they claimed they were, they King of the kingdom, Matsuko Solvune, and he wanted to invite the now former Champion, as a representative of the tribe, for an official capacity in aiding in supplying the tribe with the mean to provide for itself with as much or as little assistance as we desired.   By this time, Sinakai had informed me of a plan he wanted to attempt that wuuld potentially end the war. He had been gathering local support, in order to rally the Council of Seven to give him permission. His influence as Champion was going to be a huge part of it, and, all of a sudden the King showed up and snatched the title away.   During the meeting with the Elders, in which the King insisted that Sini and I both attend, we were all left in disbelief by a statement, casually made by the King as if it he were asking the colour of the sky.   'By the way, you look like Susabi Sharpclaw, are you two related to him?' In reference to my brother. The entire room become deathly silent.   First, he came in out of nowhere, and defeated my brother. Then, he uttered a name that had not been heard for at least ninety-five sevens   I could not wrap my head around this No-Tail king uttering the name of our long-before father's long-before father.   It was understandable that we wanted to know how it was possible for him to have known him. We had no other No-Tails to compare at the time, but other similar upright beings to them lived far less long. A lifespan that long would be closer to a Mauka's.   That was more or less how he explained it, promising us to secrecy. A gift from Mornaig's life giving force itself, in a manner of speaking. The gift gave them a lifespan far outside of what the average No-Tail had. Compared the ones that looked like him, I mean.   It was a good enough explanation for us.   I eventually saw Sini off at the ocean, he was deparing on a wooden craft that had fiber to catch the wind, I was told, seeing them folded and roped together until the time to dpeart, where they unfurled, revealing their full scale, acting like gigantic Restahls in the sky, but taken to the ocean as if it were the sky instead.   That is where our paths lead up to the current time. Sini was able to enact his plan, and, the Union Era began before I even reached my fourth-seven.   The Orlon I hatched from, was about to show me a kinder sphere, as I was given the opportunity to step onto new orlon, far from home, with sights and sounds with which I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams.
