Basic Information

Anatomy

A tall, broad figure, with well defined running muscles and muscular tails for both balance and combat.

Genetics and Reproduction

"Like the species found on Earth, these reptiles are oviparous. Long before they were gifted sapience, the process of caring for young was a simplistic primal execution. After the egg is laid by the female, she buries it and lays on top of it, guarding it, along with the male. The Orlonan mound became somewhat of a reproductive contest, with females attracting strong mates with a larger mound. For a period of six months before a laying cycle, the males and females of the species would gather food and other resources to prepare for a six month semi-hibernation. A rudimentary shelter is construction using the land itself, to allow for proper hibernation.   Reproduction is achieved through fertilisation of a gamete, giving the traits of both parents to the offspring genetically. The sex of the egg is able to be altered by changing the temperature, allowing for an increase in females to keep the population alive, if too many reproductive males are being killed. In the opposite case, when there are excess females and not enough males, the excess females voluntarily donate themselves to struggling tribes that aren't able to produce breeding females with temperature methods or otherwise."

Ecology and Habitats

"These lizards are a very versatile species. Although it is common to find them in forests, especially ones near bodies of water, they are not out of place in jungles, or deserts. Just don't expect to see too many green ones in the desert, or dusty ones in the forest! Swamps are the least common place to find lizards, but the ones that do reside there will be able to utilise their environment to their advantage in ways that will make any un-savvy adventurer meet a grim fate for crossing them.   Finally we have what are the rarest of the specimens observed, river lizards. Due to an ecological split earlier on in their development, a subspecies of amphibious lizards was created, with their adaptation producing a diet is almost exclusively pescatarian. During their sapience, they developed underwater fishing villages and towns. In order to fully interact with them, we'll need underwater breathing devices. Those haven't been invented yet, by the way, I'm looking forward to that."

Biological Cycle

"During cold winters, a new set of scales is grown that allows for both greater incubation of young, in addition to added survivability.   As the species ages, their scales will start to fade, though, on a particular species of lizard, Mornaigscale it is far less noticeable due to them sharing their colouration with the star, Mornaig. Their movements slow, and their strength fades. Currently, the oldest observed lizard perished at two hundred fifty years of age."
