Second War for the Frontier Military Conflict in Orienta | World Anvil

Second War for the Frontier

The Second War for the Frontier was an armed conflict between the Grand Duchy of Novaya and Holzreich.

The Conflict

Prelude

Following the Armistice at the end of the First War for the Frontier, tensions between Novaya and Holzreich remained tense. Novayan military thinkers believed that Holzreich's control of Grunga provided the Reich with an easy avenue to launch a potential invasion of the Novayan Frontier. It was concluded that the capture of Grunga was vital for the continued security of the Grand Duchy.

Deployment

In preperation for the conflict, Novaya spent over a year contacting the Plainsfolk clans and assembling a force of 10,000 horsemen to supplement their Levy Force. Novaya was also able to raise 60,000 levies in the leadup to the conflict. The Reichguard garrison in Grunga consisted of 4500 troops, with the Reichguard main force busy responding to the The Khel Doran Standoff

Battlefield

Fighting primarily took place in and around the city of Grunga.

The Engagement

In Spring 185 IE, the Novayan main force besieged the city of Grunga while the majority of the Reichguard were deployed in the North. As the large Reichguard force marched south from Khel Doran, Novayan Plainsfolk Horsemen crossed into Holzreich via Chegorsk and harrassed the Reichguard's baggage train, significantly slowing their progress. After damaging Grunga's defences with magical bombardment, Novayan troops stormed the city and occupied it. The Reichguard main force arrived too late, and begun besieging Grunga.

Outcome

Novaya annexes Grunga.

Aftermath

Treaty of Grunga signed.
