Aloysius Hesselweight
Aloysius Hesselweight is the self declared Mayor of Serpent's Branch and leader of the Onyx Vipers.
Hesselweight grew up in Palor as the seventh son on a large ranch. The abject poverty of his youth did a lot of fuel his desires of riches and power. Leaving home at just fourteen he travelled the lands as a storyteller and conman, eventually being picked up by the Onyx Vipers.
The Vipers first grabbed Hesselweight as he was selling on their land, and had tricked multiple members of the gang into buying his useless wares. Nobody is quite sure how he managed to so efficiently talk his way out of his untimely execution, but he soon was a full fledged member of the gang, running scams for them and spreading their legend.
His true fame would come however when the gang attacked the town that would become Serpent's Branch. The gang's former leader wanted to raid the town for its riches and burn it on the way out, but Hesselweight saw the potential in the land and the Blacksalt mines. He convinced several members of the gang to join him in a bloody coup, taking over the gang and the town in one swift move.
He would spend the next five years strengthening his hold on the town and inviting in other gangs to trade and act on a neutral plane, renaming the town to Serpent's Branch, as the vipers were offering out a hand to others. He continued to consolidate his power, building up trade and infrastructure and growing his borders.
Hesselweight rules the settlement now through the strength of his gang and the mutual respect he has built among the other large criminal networks in the area. Forever growing his influence through his oratory skills and promises of trade and coin rather than violence.
