Session 120: When Last We Met 4/6/25
General Summary
"Please, Please hear me, Lurker at the Threshold; Opener of the Way. I am your most devout, servile lamb. I am but a humble receptacle of your great power. But I beg of you please. Take me into your all-encompassing bosom. Grant me but a pittance of your galactic might. That I may pluck the forsaken yellow star of Carcossa out of the sky.... In your name! These people...This world are but insects to you. I know this. But me. ME.... I am the one born under the dark star. Born to share in your profane knowledge. That I may beckon others over that threshold. Please, Hear me!"
When last we met, the party had bedded down for the night inside the Dormition Palace intent on resting up after their previous battle with the Perpetual Shroud.
In the middle of the night, Romaia knocks on Mistral's door telling him she hears a strange whispering coming from the Library. She goes to wake the rest of the party as Mistral takes his gaseous form to go investigate.
In the library he finds Sebastian hunched over his book reciting some strange prayer or mantra. He is covered in sweat, blood and a few tears as he entreats with.... something. Mistral translates his words from Deep Speech to common and finds out he is asking something to give him the power to pluck the star Carcosa out of the sky and destroy it. Repeating this mantra over and over.
Upon relaying this info to the rest of the party, Vandread deduces that he is talking with his patron, Yog Sothoth. Another Outer God similar to Hastur and Nyarlathotep. Seeing that comparatively, this isn't a threat, he and Celeste walk into the room and tell Sebastian they know what's going on and offer to help him commune with his Patron. He is reluctant but appreciative.
He informs the two of them that beings such as the outer gods care very little for mortals and their meaningless strifes. Equating how we would look upon a tiny insect, that's how they look upon us. Celeste and Vandread try once more to help him get in touch with Yog Sothoth and go to bed upon the ritual falling on deaf ears once again.
The party wake the next day, take part in a luxurious breakfast with the Ruling family of Volgot and then take their leave via the airship they came in on. They set sail for an 8.5 day journey toward the country of Norheim. The last of the three countries with the most concentrated leadership (And thus the easiest to take control of)
On the way, the party participate in some downtime activity over their weeklong journey, Reading, building new magic items and so on. Along the way they notice it is unseasonably hot for springtime and can actually see the Star of Carcossa as a second sun in the sky. Sebastian tries several more communes with his Patron to no avail.
Finally they arrive in Norheim and head toward the capital city of Balmora. As they descend, they can see several buildings ablaze! they reach the ground and get to work. Vandread imbues his steel defender with the Haste spell and she proceeds to fill their newest bag of holding with hundreds of gallons of water as she proceeds to douse the flames all over the city. Practically inventing the fire hydrant and modern firefighting techniques. The citizens are quite happy, but being superstitious and repulsed by magic, the party have a hard time winning over the populace at first but they manage to find out that creatures they describe as "torn from the bowels of Helheim" came and torched their houses and were headed toward the Emberforge Keep, Palace where Queen Fìusnath, ruler of the country resides. The party instructs the civilians to shelter in their homes and they head towards the massive timber fortress.
They come to a bridge crossing and find a few guards beset upon by Star Spawn. Celeste releases a volley of arrows at them, followed by Mistral casting Flame Strike, Then Romaia casting Hunger of Hadar to finish these aberrations off. The trio of guards approach the party cautiously, being untrusting of magic users. One of the guards, calling herself Freya, questions the party and their intentions and upon hearing they are here to help, She enlists them to accompany the guards to the Emberforge Keep to take back the palace from these things.
They arrive and cross a narrow drawbridge into the courtyard of the castle, Where they find workers and residents of the palace hiding behind a trio of guards who are fighting back against the star spawn. Unbeknownst to this crowd, there is a trio of Star Spawn Manglers moving to attack them from behind. The party see this and spring into action. Vandread casts haste on himself and he darts over attacking the Manglers with his Trident. Celeste finishes one off with arrow shots and the crowd of civilians use the opportunity to flee for their lives. Leaving the Party, Their allies, and a few guards to face off against The Star Spawn Manglers.
And that's where we'll pick up next time!
