Session 112: When Last We Met 1/26/25
General Summary
When last we met, The Creature known as Nyarlathotep had challenged the party to combat to see how well they would fare against the King in Yellow. Despite some mental scarring and temporary Madness, The party didn't fare too badly. Nyarlathotep casts a Hallucinatory Terrain spell to make it appear he was standing at a far end of a bottomless chasm to put space between he and the party and offered that they may yet survive or even defeat The King in Yellow, before Escaping using a Plane Shift Spell.
With Quiet returned to the forest, the party patch themselves up and have a task of figuring out how to pass this fissure in the earth. Vandread remembers that they acquired 3 brooms of flying from the hags they destroyed. Those get distributed among the party members that can't fly and they cross the gaping maw. Upon a closer inspection, Celeste figures out that the hole is an illusion and silently curses the tricky bastard.
They make it across and make their way out of the forest of Hagswood, returning back to Birchnod where they find Their airship parked in the center of the village, much to the wonder and awe of the inhabitants. They find Sebastian making nice with Lady Devereaux as they approach and greet one another. They speak to Lady Deveraux in private about the dark past (of which she is aware) and uneasy truce they made and express the utmost imperative that the citizens of Birchnod do not violate this treaty. She pledges that they will do their part in exchange that they don't have another incident like the one with the Banshee. All is agreed upon and Vandread even offers up 100pp out of pocket to help pay for a town vigil in remembrance for the poor souls lost and buried in Hagswood.
After that, The party bid farewell to Flint and board the ship along with Sebastian, Ukko, Hakim an his Muharib as they take to the skies and sail for Volgot. Eleven days go by in the air as they travel west toward the capital city. They make it there without incident and land just on the outskirts of Darkolz before continuing on foot into the city. The party make a quick stop off to purchase Plate armor for Vandread. From there, the party make it to the front courtyard of the Dormition palace where they find The guards welcoming, but strangely wearing different vestments from the usual city guards. Many questions and uncertainties are drawn from this moment and we will dive further into them next time!
